Here is the ingredient list for McDonald's hash browns, taken from their website: Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [Wheat and Milk Derivatives]*), Salt, Corn Flour, Dehydrated Potato, Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (Maintain Color), Extractives of Black Pepper. *Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients

Elsewhere there’s the claim that McDonalds fries are cooked in some amount of beef fat in processing. Warrants further vetting.

    1. “To me, this is symptomatic of a much larger problem of transparency within the company. Nobody is forthcoming with information that dramatically affects editorial,” Binkowski said. “One of those things was me not knowing if I was in trouble.”

This firing of Snopes managing editor reiterates previous concerns over an unhealthy working environment. This article is old enough I'd like to see followups.

    1. When I asked Barbara to comment on the GoFundMe page, she noticed her erasure. “Was surprised to see my life’s work described as having been ‘a small one-person effort,’”

Diminishing your 50/50 partner's contributions & erasing their attributions (accidentally or not) is one of the things I find the most annoying.

    2. When I asked how many articles she’d written for the site, she came back with a “verified count” of 1,905. She told me how she came to that number: “By examining every Snopes.com HTML file on my computer, rereading every email David and I exchanged from 1997 until now, and in cases where doubt still existed, examining my research files. The task took a week, but I am satisfied I now have a fair list and that all lurking doubles (a result of David’s penchant for renaming files) have been excised.”

Impressive. Her alleged painstaking data-hoarding makes me like her. I'm not sure what to think of David's ambiguity yet.

    1. But when the Sultan Mehmed II besieged Constantinople in 1453 he had a new weapon. There had been various techniques of siege craft before, but they were very difficult and slow. Cannons changed all that, ultimately making city walls obsolete. They had been around for about 100 years but there had never been a cannon like this before. The sultan had a Hungarian foundryman make for him an enormous cannon that could fire stone balls seven feet in circumference from a distance of a mile. This was referred to as the Horrible Bombard by one of the sources and it relentlessly battered the city walls of Constantinople in the spring of 1453, when the city eventually fell.

      2. I can't help but think of the mega crossbow in Game of Thrones.
    1. "This wall, you won't be able to touch it. You can fry an egg on that wall — it's very very hot," the president told reporters in Otay Mesa, in the San Diego sector of the U.S.-Mexico border. "So if they're going to climb it, they need to bring hoses and water and I don't know where they're going to hook it up. There's not a lot of water out here."
      1. Active or passive automated defense from the wall? Why not have it create heat to burn people. Electrify? Auto-turrets? (Makes me think of an Aeon Flux episode.)
      2. Water? Or gloves.
    1. While Conway pointedly evaded questions about Trump’s previously claiming that global warming is a hoax, the candidate himself adamantly denied having made such claims during his first debate against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016: CLINTON: “They’ve looked at my plans and they’ve said, OK, if we can do this, and I intend to get it done, we will have 10 million more new jobs, because we will be making investments where we can grow the economy. Take clean energy. Some country is going to be the clean-energy superpower of the 21st century. Donald thinks that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese. I think it’s real.” TRUMP: “I did not. I did not. I do not say that.” CLINTON: “I think science is real.” TRUMP: “I do not say that.” But Trump has, in fact, said just that. Here, from the public record, in his own words, are instances of Donald Trump calling global warming a hoax (and more colorful things): The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 6, 2012 Ice storm rolls from Texas to Tennessee – I’m in Los Angeles and it’s freezing. Global warming is a total, and very expensive, hoax! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 6, 2013 NBC News just called it the great freeze – coldest weather in years. Is our country still spending money on the GLOBAL WARMING HOAX? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 25, 2014 freestar.queue.push(function () { googletag.display('post-body-2'); }); Snowing in Texas and Louisiana, record setting freezing temperatures throughout the country and beyond. Global warming is an expensive hoax! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 29, 2014 Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air – not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 29, 2014

Trump said climate change is a hoax & then claimed he never said that.

      Review: Any apologetics since 2016?

    1. The process is based on a Native American tracking technique called cutting for sign, used to reveal footprints and other evidence of passage.

Nice phrase for vocabulary & modern take on indigenous concepts.

    1. “Depending on the warming scenarios used and adaptation levels assumed, with other factors held constant, by approximately the year 2080, climate change is estimated to induce 1.4 [million] to 6.7 million adult Mexicans ... to emigrate as a result of declines in agricultural productivity alone,” the researchers wrote.

    1. Linehan, who is also known for writing The IT Crowd and co-writing Black Books, defended his stance of referring to Hayden as “he”, adding: “I will call all of my trans friends ‘she’. I think of them as women, they are respectful and are not misogynists. But I refuse to respect the pronouns of misogynists.”

Interesting & hopeful statement. Warrants further research into Linehan's history. NTS: Explore divide between "extreme" & "reasonable" trans-people.

    1. Booting from an existing volume Booting from a volume requires a Cloud Block Storage volume built from a valid image or a volume cloned from an existing bootable volume. These volumes are charged at the current Cloud Block Storage rates and can be configured to persist after server deletion.

    1. If the system employs RAID level 10 on the back end storage nodes, can I assume my volumes are fully protected from a failure scenario? The hardware RAID level 10 employed by Cloud Block Storage nodes provides protection against disk failures on the storage nodes themselves. However customers are strongly encouraged to implement a RAID level 1 (mirror) configuration across multiple volumes to protect against data loss in the event of a storage node failure.

The need and the method to use in creating a RAID1 configuration in CBS should be linked to from this FAQ entry.
