Therefore, the risk can only be addressed by policy tomandate collection, through deposit schemes, to incentivise recycling, reuse and lesspackaging through virgin material taxes, to demand recyclability in all packaging design.Some businesses are supporting these measures, but not yet a critical mass and not stronglyenough.

It means less signing up to whatever buzzword is trending, and moretargeted strategic investment in achieving market - and societal - shifts that enable businessto align commerciality and sustainability.

Precious business resources should not be squandered onaction that achieves only reputation kudos or which has negligible scale contribution toreal world change but should instead be committed to shifting markets and sectors - andpositioning to win in the resulting market shifts - so that business can profit from a moresustainable future.

This transition will be economic, industrial and structural, and as a result will have significantimplications for value creation, competitiveness and resilience.
