    1. disappointing that the Labor Party actively boycott this event when its intention is to uplift women

Divya Ahlawat was simply stating the facts - Liberal councillors did not vote to ban the event, nor did council - but Labor councillors have ensure a course of action which doesn't reflect the decision made by council.

And that's mainly to cover for the stuff up of a departed member of their dominant Left faction. Although he is attached to the hip with Mayor Laxale who has made unfortunate previous comments on social media.

It's amazing that you would have your male mates on one side partially geeing you up on social media to trick you into another story and then on the other hand, you've come along to the event - after pre-writing most of the story - only to hear the previous year's queen debunk the misinformation assembled by your mates.

And then, this year's winner's comments just didn't fit with the story you wanted to do (see further down).

    1. And the perfect afternoon slowly ripened, slowly faded, slowly its petals closed

An intriguing metaphor: the novel's name is The Garden Party, but nothing happened at the garden party was narrated in the novel, the only allusion to the process of the party is this, a few compliments on Laura's stunning appearance, and good-byes. Perhaps the metaphor also indicates that Laura's innocent age, (when she had not a taste of life and death), slowly ripened, and slowly faded with the perfect afternoon at the exact same time.

    1. acquiescent

…is defined as ready to accept something without protest; submit or comply silently.

We get this picture of an old man, Eben, on a night where he is isolated and alone with nothing but a bottle in his hand, Mr. Flood. He looks below his town where friends once revered him, then drinks. And he sees a mother’s love for a child, then drinks. Eben drinks in order to fill that loss by desensitizing himself. He can only look from the outside as he accepts the reality of his situation. We can interpret this poem of how a man who loss himself to alcoholism along with friends and his dreams of love and a family.
