Presenter Lawrence Mak broke down types of notes into the following three categories:
- general notes (projects, ideas, journals, recipes, budgeting, homework, etc.)
- lists (groceries, reading, gifts, to dos, assignments) - reminders (birthdays, bills, maintenance, health)

    1. Set a domino habit (the central point of your day): a habit that makes everything else better for the rest of the day.

Then, make temporal landmarks (and set alarms as reminders, hinges) which function as beacon to transition throughout the day, to make sure you can hit your domino habit.

    1. Goutor defines self-help notes as notes which one would use to refresh their memory about what remains to be done or researched, problems that remain to be solved, or information which is needed to be researched or found. (p26) These are akin in some sense to what I call "open questions". He also indicates that these notes might be triggered by one's daily activities or occasional musings which relate to one's project but occur outside of its active pursuit. In this sense, they have a similar feel to the idea of Ahrens' fleeting notes, but in Goutor's practice they aren't defined as occurring while one is doing active reading or research.

He suggests that one keeps these notes in a separate area so that they might be systematically and regularly visited for review, further research, or answering as the opportunities to do so present themselves. Once the questions have been answered and appropriate notes updated or added, these self-help notes can be discarded.

    1. The box makes me feel connected to a project. It is my soil. I feel this evenwhen I’ve back-burnered a project: I may have put the box away on a shelf, but Iknow it’s there. The project name on the box in bold black lettering is a constantreminder that I had an idea once and may come back to it very soon.

Having a physical note taking system also stands as a physical reminder and representation of one's work and focus. It may be somewhat out of the way on a shelf, but it takes up space in a way that digital files and notes do not. This invites one into using and maintaining it.

This plugin also does reminders for Obsisian, but doesn't look very well supported and hasn't been updated in a while. Not sure I like the general format as much as the other version in any case.

    1. Why isn’t there a digital note taking tool that works like this?

It would be interesting if there were a timed pop-up notification functionality within Hypothes.is directly so that one could create follow-up reminders for particular highlights and annotations.

I've thought about wanting this before though I've got something in my data store for those notes that does something like this in a third-party sense.
