    1. t our index would refer us to electricitywherever mentioned in the text of our literature if usableinformation is given, and it should also tell us something more—the aspect under which it is treated in each case. Whetherand from what aspect information is usable, that we must decidefor ourselves.

Kaiser speaks here of the issue of missing index entries in commercial and even library-based indexes versus the personal indexing of one's own card index/zettelkasten.

Some of the problem comes down to a question of scale as well as semantics, but there's also something tied up with the levels of specificity from broad category headwords to more specific, and finally down to the level of individual ideas. Some of this can be seen in the levels of specificity within the Syntopicon though there aren't any (?, doublecheck) of links from one idea directly to another.

Note that while there may be direct links from a single idea to another, there is still infinite space by which one can interpose additional ideas between them.

    1. Introducing BOOX Tab Ultra C: Let the Colors Help You Work Better

They're primarily touting one of the few e-ink tablets that does color (beginning in 2023), but it's fascinating to see the Boox marketing department using this video to sell the idea of color on a screen as a tool for thought this way.

It's subtle and something we take for granted, so they have a point, but somehow odd none the less, perhaps because of its ubiquity.

Let the colors help you think, organize, and work better.

Let the colors help you work better.

    1. Good has captured the essence of the runaway, but he does not pursue its most disturbing consequences. Any intelligent machine of the sort he describes would not be humankinds “tool” – any more than humans are the tools of rabbits, robins, or chimpanzees.

If humanity were to create an ultra-intelligent computer then humans would be far surpassed. This part of the passage says that because our minds would be so simple compared to that of the machines at the point of the singularity that we would be little more than rabbits. This idea is astounding because our mental capabilities are vastly superior to those of rabbits or other animals and the idea that we could be so easily surpassed and so greatly surpassed is probably terrifying to many people. This is probably what makes the idea of a singularity such an abstract idea.
