"Lessons in Lawn Tennis" (Upcott Gill).
A fine recommendation by a future Olympian!

He must analysethe whole stroke, and must not attempt to do it asif it were a single unit. It is true that the bornplayer, by the light of genius, does the whole stroke asa whole stroke, and perhaps is not aware that it can feedivided into parts : he may even deny it. None theless it has often been proved that it can be divided intoparts, and that to master each part separately is a mucheasier .process than to -master the whole -at once. It is -notgoing too far to say that for average people to masterthe whole stroke at once is an absolute impossibility.
Interesting to see this tennis analogy in writing in 1905 from a top-notch player who will win a silver metal in the 1908 Olympics...

Developed out of real (or royal) tennis, not only were nationaltournaments established – Wimbledon in 1877 and the US Open in 1881 –but every provincial town now wanted its own lawn tennis club. Old wordstook on new meanings connected with the game – love (1880), chalk (1886),volley (1875), smash (1882), lob (1890) – and new words emerged as thegame evolved and grew in popularity – grass court (1875), first serve (1878),second serve (1878), centre court (1883), hard court (1885), doubles (1894),ground stroke (1895). Murray included reference to the game in the very firstvolume, in 1884, defining the word ace as ‘a point at rackets, lawn tennis, etc’

What a shitty non-apology apology.
Why couldn't he backtrack and give her the opportunity to participate without the press? The media storm that this has created has quadrupled any interviews she may have given. What a jackass.

This is one of the best and more reliable Greek websites on tennis. The guys who run it are really dedicated and passionate about tennis and make a great effort to analyse and discuss all of tournaments. I have been following them since 2007. Highly recommended if you are interested in tennis and speak Greek.
