    1. for - Federico Faggin - quantum physics - consciousness

summary - Frederico Faggin is a physicist and microelectronic engineer who was the developer of the world's first microprocessor at Intel, the Intel 4004 CPU. - Now he focuses his attention on developing a robust and testable theory of consciousness based on quantum information theory. - What sets Frederico apart from other scientists who are studying consciousness is a series of profound personal 'awakening'-type experiences in which has led to a psychological dissolution of the sense of self bounded by his physical body - This profound experience led him to claim with unshakable certainty that our individual consciousness is far greater than our normal mundane experience of it - Having a science and engineering background, Faggin has set out to validate his experiences with a new scientific theory of Consciousness, Information and Physicality (CIP) and Operational Probabilistic Theory (OPT)

    2. and so so that theory was born by my effort also to try to figure out how do I connect what we all this Rich knowledge that we have about the physical world in physics with this inner world that I knew from the inside and that was called operational probabilistic Theory

    3. what you call CIP B which is the Consciousness information and physicality and how it links to opt which is operational probabilistic Theory

    1. Optional practical training.

      C) 과학, 기술, 공학 또는 수학(STEM) 학위에 대한 수료 후 OPT의 24개월 연장. 본 항의 (f)(11)(i)(C)항에 따라, 자격을 갖춘 학생은 8 CFR 274a.12(c)(3)(i)(B)에 따라 승인된 수료 후 OPT의 유효한 기간 동안 OPT 연장을 신청할 수 있습니다.

    1. it really depends on how the organization's legal counsel interprets the laws and how risk-averse they are. Some organizations might say only Germany requires double opt-in, while others also include Austria and Switzerland. Some organizations might say the US operates under "everyone is opted in until they opt out" while others might say everyone needs to opt in, regardless of country.

    1. I've just experienced the same issue with confirmation links being executed in a sent email before the user has received them and invalidating the link. I got around the issue by modifying the page the URL links to. I've added a Confirm button on the page which the user has to click to confirm their email and this works nicely.
    1. If the link you are trying to send is just some kind of harmless confirmation link (e.g. subscribe/unsubscribe from a newsletter), then at least use a form inside the web page to do the actual confirmation through a POST request (possibly also using a CSRF token), otherwise you will unequivocally end up with false positives.

    1. Driver management through Selenium Manager is opt-in for the Selenium bindings. Thus, users can continue managing their drivers manually (putting the driver in the PATH or using system properties) or rely on a third-party driver manager to do it automatically. Selenium Manager only operates as a fallback: if no driver is provided, Selenium Manager will come to the rescue.

    1. This is a terrible idea. At least if there's no way to opt out of it! And esp. if it doesn't auto log out the original user after some timeout.

Why? Because I may no longer remember which device/connection I used originally or may no longer have access to that device or connection.

What if that computer dies? I can't use my new computer to connect to admin UI without doing a factory reset of router?? Or I have to clone MAC address?

In my case, I originally set up via ethernet cable, but after I disconnected and connected to wifi, the same device could not log in, getting this error instead! (because different interface has different mac address)

    1. So The Screener really just acts as a second layer of consent—almost like a confirmed opt in.
    2. The difference is that this happens in the email client, not at the subscription step. Why is this a big deal? Because, even though they just subscribed to your email, there’s a chance your email won’t get a thumbs up.

    1. I'd suggest there ought to be config to disable source maps specifically, and specifically for either CSS or JS (not alwasy both), without turning off debug mode. As you note, debug mode does all sorts of different things that you might want with or without source maps.
    1. # This behavior can be disabled with: # # environment.unregister_postprocessor 'application/javascript', Sprockets::SafetyColons

but it appears to no longer be possible in latest version...

    1. We got this email from Parabo, the print shop app, and smiled. Instead of the very standard “Please confirm subscription” header text, we were greeted with a funny, whimsical hello that’s totally in their brand voice. “We really want you to want us” is a clever way to break up the usual mundane greeting, and, guess what? It totally reaffirmed why we thought we wanted to sign up for their emails in the first place.
    1. The blog A Life Of Productivity uses double opt-ins to make sure that people signing up for the email newsletter really want to read it. If a site visitor was somehow subscribed by accident, the subscription won’t go through unless they click the verification button sent to their email address.<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32479" src="https://www.convinceandconvert.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/A-Life-of-Productivity.jpg" alt="A Life of Productivity" width="724" height="549" />

    1. Under the GDPR, users have the right to object to certain processing activities in relation to their personal data carried out by the Controller. In a nutshell, the user can object to the processing of their data whenever the processing is based on the controller’s legitimate interest, or the performance of a task in the public interest/exercise of official authority, or for purposes of scientific/historical research and statistics. The user has to state a motivation for their objection, unless the processing is carried out for direct marketing purposes, in which case no motivation is needed to exercise this right.

    1. With this method, you can ensure the email address receiving your communication actually belongs to the person giving the consent and hereby further ensure that you avoid high unsubscribe rates, retain the integrity of your list and the reputation of your address. This method of registration is considered best practice in many countries, especially Germany and in the EU in general.
    2. Under the FTC’s CAN-SPAM Act, you do not need consent prior to adding users located in the US to your mailing list or sending them commercial messages, however, it is mandatory that you provide users with a clear means of opting out of further contact.

    1. never even implemented a way for webmasters to opt out of it,

There were discussions about opt-out mechanisms in the Web Annotation Working group (see here), but in the end it was decided that further work would be deferred to to a future version of the specifications.

    1. An example of reliance on legitimate interests includes a computer store, using only the contact information provided by a customer in the context of a sale, serving that customer with direct regular mail marketing of similar product offerings — accompanied by an easy-to-select choice of online opt-out.

    1. clicking here

Go look here. It's very interesting.

It lists about 300 advertisers that collect data on users. Fully half of those do not have an opt-out method to prevent interest based ads.
