    1. Depending on your type of keyboard there may also be a del key. If so you can use that to clear the range content. Optionally, go to Edit> Delete, or use Edit> Clear... to select from its submenu. You can also assign keystrokes of your choice to the appropriate commands if you prefer.

    1. Google Forms and Sheets allow users toannotate using customizable tools. Google Forms offers a graphicorganizer that can prompt student-determined categorical input andthen feeds the information into a Sheets database. Sheetsdatabases are taggable, shareable, and exportable to other software, such as Overleaf (London, UK) for writing and Python for coding. The result is a flexible, dynamic knowledge base with many learningapplications for individual and group work

Who is using these forms in practice? I'd love to see some examples.

This sort of set up could be used with some outlining functionality to streamline the content creation end of common note taking practices.

Is anyone using a spreadsheet program (Excel, Google Sheets) as the basis for their zettelkasten?

Link to examples of zettelkasten as database (Webb, Seignobos suggestions)

    1. The person was transported to Doctor's West in critical condition.

The images accompanying the story show that the Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS) was inactive and locked in the "down" position.

These mowers are made by Excel. In the manual for my Excel mower (similar design but sold under another brand) not only do they warn of steep slopes like those shown in the photo, but they also warn to ALWAYS operate the mower with the ROPS locked in the up position except for temporarily lowering it to get under tree branches or other low-hanging obstacles.

Most of the time I see mowers equipped with ROPS, the operators have it locked in the down position.

    1. Heyyy!!! I am so happy to see that I am not the only one following a similar system. I have lots of books marked in the same way and also with notes (by the way when taking notes use black ink - blue reflects in light and tired mind - ) and then my solution. After reading it all and taking notes, I categorized all my notes and distribute around my Excel file as attaching. Using this way I can add it to different categories and use it every where.

Example of person using Excel to keep a commonplace book.

    1. Did you know that everything you can do in VBA can also be done in Python? The Excel Object Model is what you use when writing VBA, but the same API is available in Python as well.See Python as a VBA Replacement from the PyXLL documentation for details of how this is possible.

We can replace VBA with Python

    2. You can write Excel worksheet functions in your Jupyter notebook too. This is a really great way of trying out ideas without leaving Excel to go to a Python IDE.

We can define functions in Python to later use in Excel

    3. Use the magic function “%xl_get” to get the current Excel selection in Python. Have a table of data in Excel? Select the top left corner (or the whole range) and type “%xl_get” in your Jupyter notebook and voila! the Excel table is now a pandas DataFrame.

%xl_get lets us get the current Excel selection in Python

    4. to run Python code in Excel you need the PyXLL add-in. The PyXLL add-in is what lets us integrate Python into Excel and use Python instead of VBA

PyXLL lets us use Python/Jupyter Notebooks in Excel

    1. XMATCH which has a similar signature to XLOOKUP but returns the index of the matching item. XMATCH is both easier to use and more capable than its predecessor MATCH.   XMATCH(lookup_value,lookup_array,[match_mode],[search_mode])

XMATCH is another upcoming Excel function

    2. While VLOOKUP was widely used, it has several well-known limitations which XLOOKUP overcomes:

      XLOOKUP overcomes 6 VLOOKUP's issues:

      1. Defaults to an "approximate" match.
      2. Does not support column insertions/deletions.
      3. Cannot look to the left.
      4. Cannot search from the back.
      5. Cannot search for next larger item.
      6. References more cells than necessary.
    3. XLOOKUP(lookup_value,lookup_array,return_array)   lookup_value: What you are looking for lookup_array: Where to find it return_array: What to return

XLOOKUP will replace VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP excel functions used since 1985
