    1. for - Youtube Ma Earth channel interview - Devcon 2024 - Cosmo Local Commoning with Web 3 - Michel Bauwens - 2025, Jan 2

// - COMMENTS - This is a very insightful interview with Michel that provides a lot of historical contexts for the many challenges faced by contemporary society - Within these historical contexts, we can glimpse how today's problems are part of a repeating pattern, albeit with many new elements that have emerged - He offers the possibility of a commons approach of mutualization, - in particular cosmolocalism - as a powerful leverage point to evolve a future wellbeing civilization - Contexualizing modernity in the alternate growth and downfall periods of human civilizations, he points out how we are in a transition period in which the current system is fraying - He outlines the many seed forms that exist now which, just like those that appeared in past cycles of downfall, combined to emerge the next growth cycle - crypto and blockchain - which can provide a global way of coordinating planetary health - the internet in general, which can bring mutualization of knowledge for locailzed production - There are some strong exemplars of promising seed forms but to scale, - the cosmo processes have to integrate with - local, place-anchored processes such as permacutlure and bioregion-based regeneration.

    1. The financing strategy was widely used during the 1997-2010 Labour government, and finally ditched by the Conservatives in 2018 after several NHS trusts required bailouts stemming from the high cost of the PFI schemes. Existing contracts were untouched.A report by the National Audit Office, the spending watchdog, that year found taxpayers had incurred billions of pounds in extra costs for no clear benefit through PFIs, with yearly fees running at £10bn.PFI deals are on average 31 years long and generally involve the assets reverting back into public hands at the end. Nearly 71 PFI contracts worth about £4bn are coming to an end in the next four years. More than 300 PFI contracts will expire in the next decadeNumber of PFI contracts expiring, by financial year20502045204020352030202520200604020344 expirations344 expirationsSource: National Audit OfficeA common trigger for clashes when contracts near expiry is the condition of the assets, and the question of who should pay for any deficiencies.

Oh, so this is useful and interesting because I remember hearing about these when they were first proposed. Essentially, one of the problems even when infrastructure revert to public hands is that it's in crap shape and it's not clear whose job it is to pay to fix it up.

If done solely from a business perspective, the administration ought to be looking very closely on what their "product" actually is and the quality of what they're directly selling and to whom. It sounds like they ought to re-evaluate their priorities and might benefit from reading The Fall of the Faculty by Benjamin Ginsberg. Is it worthwhile to get a bulk discount and buy a couple hundred copies to send to the deans and senior administration?

    1. But that’s just one way to get batteries into low-income customers’ homes. Sunrun also acts as a third-party owner of solar and battery systems that Grid Alternatives installs for customers that can’t or don’t want to borrow money to finance it. Third-party owners can monetize the value of federal tax credits for low-income households that don’t pay a large enough federal tax bill to take advantage of the credits themselves.

This feels like the project partner thing from before - income households can't access the support themselves, so you need an intermediary to arrange someone with a tax bill to recude, and presumably take a cut in the process.

    1. The Ministry has developed a support scheme to support pilot testing of innovative solutions in practice directly on the territory of the city and, with the help of active targeted counseling, to improve the managementof the transition towards administrative and fi nancially more demanding activities. In the framework of the pilot testing of the proposed support mechanism, 5 projects are to be supported, with the allocation for one project covering the costs of preparing a feasibility study of the solution and using a certain share of co-fi nancing of the Ministry resources and City resources for pilot testing in practice. We expect the launch of the pilot call in the 4th quarter of 2017.
