    1. I believe it is possible to disprefer something while either 1. not disliking it, or 2. liking it but not intensely enough to be the preference. As in, "I like tart apples, but I sometimes disprefer them as an ingredient on a green salad." It doesn't and hasn't, meant I would refuse to eat a salad with this ingredient included, but there are times when my preference would have been to have a salad without them.
    2. I think you linguists worry too much. It's a simple enough formation using a very common prefix, and while it is not clear whether "I disprefer" means "I do not prefer" or "I prefer something other than" or "I prefer the opposite of" or "I stop preferring", either it'll settle down to one meaning or it'll carry a range. So what? This is the first time I've heard the word but I don't find it particularly puzzling.

    1. Sweetshrub grows best in average to rich, well-drained soil in anywhere from full sun to deep shade. It prefers some shade in hot summer afternoons and it will grow lankier and less dense in shade than in sun. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil textures and pH but prefers rich loams.  Plant it 3 to 5 feet from other shrubs to give it adequate room to grow.  It blooms in early spring before leaves emerge, with the leaves, and sporadically thereafter.  

      Very tolerant of shade or sun and most soils.

    1. Why don't you allow a range without end, like (1..)? There are two advantages. First, we can write ary[1..] instead of ary[1..-1]. The -1 is one of the most I dislike in Ruby. It is very magical, ugly, redundant, and disappointing. I envy Python's ary[1:]. I know that ary.drop(1) is slightly fast, but too long for such a common operation, IMO. Second, we can write (1..).each {|n| ... }.

      Does the host range of transfer go wider than the population where GFP is observed?

      This is my idea of distinctive overlapping categories of host range as venn diagrams.
