i think it's a near miss it's the most likely thing to save us
for - quote - unfortunately, I think we need a near miss to wake us up - Ronald Wright
comment - But the problem is that we can't count on that because it may very well be too late by then - Is the extreme weather events now happening regularly enough to wake us up?

She had resolution enough to pursue her own will in spite of her brother, but not enough to refrain from unreasonable regrets at that brother’s unreasonable anger, nor from missing the luxuries of her former home.
This sentence is one of those that should be written in gold: Miss Churchill's possession of will power is undermined by the expectations of a brother who would hold economic and social power over her. This might seem reasonable from our 21st-century perspective, but Austen's narrator does not let us linger much in that complaisance. It is unreasonable to limit someone's will based on class and gender.

But the distressing domestic emergency which now confronted me, was most marvellously and beautifully provided for in the Correspondence of Miss Jane Ann Stamper–Letter one thousand and one, on “Peace in Families.” I rose in my modest corner, and I opened my precious book.
Just like how Betteredge tries to find answer from Robinson Crusoe, Miss Clack is trying to find a solution to this situation from the Correspondence of Miss Jane Ann Stamper.
-
. I don’t know when I have felt the solemn duty of interfering so strongly as I felt it at that moment.
Miss Clack's interfering is not in favor of other's needs, but her own satisfaction
-
hat she had also died without giving me my little legacy.
Miss Clack is such a sanctimonious hypocrite. She has once judged Mr. Luker's desire for money is guilty. But Miss Clack is actually the one who have high desire for money.
-
As for me, my sense of propriety was completely bewildered.
It is so ironic to talk about the propriety in here, since Miss Clack already eavesdropped and the whole conversation
-
Using these and other similar forms of courteous appeal, we reintroduced all my precious passages under a form which not even the doctor’s watchful materialism could suspect.
Miss Clack seems to be a very stubborn and devout Christian in the aspect of the Lady
-
When no interests but my own are involved, I am humbly content to get from place to place by the omnibus. Permit me to give an idea of my devotion to my aunt’s interests by recording that, on this occasion, I committed the prodigality of taking a cab.
I feel like that Miss Clack holds with the promotion of Christianity is greater than her worry about her aunt’s illness
-
But, oh, don’t let us judge! My Christian friends, don’t let us judge!
Miss Clack always say "don't judge" but she seems to judge a lot based on someone's dress appearance to someone's attitude toward something.
-
sinful
This is another word that Miss Clack used a lots in her narrative.
-
Here surely was a case for a clergyman, if ever there was one yet! Lady Verinder had thought it a case for a physician.
The difference solution of "clergyman" and "physician" again shows that Miss Class is a faithful religious person.
-
There was an absence of all lady-like restraint in her language and manner most painful to see. She was possessed by some feverish excitement which made her distressingly loud when she laughed, and sinfully wasteful and capricious in what she ate and drank at lunch.
Comparing to Betteredge's writing style which more focus on the description of character's physical appearance and story reveal personality; Miss Clack' writing style are more focusing on character's speaking attitude.
-
devout
The word "devout" came out a few thing from Miss Clack's narrative. I assume she is a devout Christian?
-
My nature is weak. It cost me a hard struggle, before Christian humility conquered sinful pride, and self-denial accepted the cheque.
Miss Clack describes herself as weak, and a Christian
-
alas!
This is one of words that Miss Clack will use, but Betteredge won't use. However, this word also reveals some personality of Miss Clack, by definition, alas means: "an expression of grief, pity, or concern." By this we can assume Miss Clack might be a sentimental person

we also wrap them in Failure to solve the second problem: spotting potential exceptions is hard
-
Almost everything in python can fail with different types of exceptions: division, function calls, int, str, generators, iterables in for loops, attribute access, key access, even raise something() itself may fail. I am not even covering IO operations here. And checked exceptions won’t be supported in the nearest future.
-
You still need to have a solid experience to spot these potential problems in a perfectly readable and typed code.
-
print will never be actually executed. Because 1 / 0 is an impossible operation and ZeroDivisionError will be raised.

It was a direct encouragement to her reckless way of talking, and her insolent reference to me.
Wow. Miss Clack hates Rachel this much to the degree that does not align with her "very" Christian ways. Perhaps her malicious thoughts towards Rachel are projections of how she feels between their class difference, even if they are cousins.
-
There was an absence of all lady-like restraint in her language and manner most painful to see. She was possessed by some feverish excitement which made her distressingly loud when she laughed, and sinfully wasteful and capricious in what she ate and drank at lunch.
Like Ashley's annotations above, I'm also quite intrigued about the varying impressions of Betteredge and Miss Clack on Rachel. In these lines, it may look that Miss Clack's irritation towards Rachel stems from how Rachel seems so "unconventional" (at least to Miss Clack's eyes), but it also sounds that she envies Rachel unorthodox ways.
-
and poor polite Mr. Godfrey had paid the penalty of
Miss Clack seems to be trying to 'protect' Mr. Godfrey throughout the naration. Might this be an indication of something more relevant to the plot. Narrators are supposed to be interpreted as truthful according to Collins, which further enchances the confusion. Nevertheless, that doesn't nessesarily exclude the possibility of underplaying certain facts, which seems to be what is happening to me. Assuming that this is the case, it acts as a strong indication for Mr. Godfrey being somehow involved. So far Miss Clack is depicted as a figure of questionable morality. It would be interesting to see what role Mr. Godfrey has at the end of the story.
-
Nothing goes right, father; nothing is like what it used to be. I feel as if some dreadful misfortune was hanging over us all
Sounds like the curse of the Moonstone, which should be rightfully cast on the family, if Rachel has, in fact, stolen the stone!

The problem I have with this approach to state and prop variables is that the difference between them is very blurry. In React you can clearly see that a prop is an input to component (because of clear function notation), and that state is something internal. In Svelte they are both just variables, with the exception that props use export keyword.
This is something I've seen before: people noticing that Svelte is missing some kind of naming convention.
React has use___ convention, for example. Without that, it makes it hard to see the difference between and know just from the name that a function is an (mentioned in the other article I read) action and not a event handler or even component, for example.
-
-
-
Just throwing in <div class="{$$props.class || ''} otherChildClass"></div> seems the easiest, and it'll avoid undefined classes. I feel like many aren't noticing the undefined values getting inserted in their classes.

Labor councillors are suspicious about Mr Booth's pageant. In 2014, then councillor George Simon - now assistant general secretary of NSW Labor - called for the "archaic" event to be killed off.
This is a great example of the risks involved in using background paragraphs from incomplete coverage. George Simon will no doubt be over the moon that you've given him a plug, along with his courageous but failed efforts to kill off the event.
It's likely you found your re-used paragraph in the story previewing George Simon's courageous failure. Unfortunately, The Hasbeen was MIA when the motion was shot down in flames.
But your competitor - and also TWT competitor - News Ltd's (NDT) report on failed attempt to ban Queen Questl was there at the meeting in which the motion suffered a humiliating defeat.
Even a niche womens issues publication, Womens Agenda, noted George Simon was branded a wanker for his bungled efforts..
Nevermind, you're not expected to get everything right as a work experience student, but you'll be relieved to know someone in the former Fairfax - now Nine - publishing empire did.
Watch and learn how the pros like Peter Munro do it. In his 'Six Degrees' column he mentioned Simon was chastised for his fruitless cruisade by Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins.
That was a report, of course, before Simon ended up with egg on his face, as was the earlier one selectively regurgitated.
But surely you could have also regurgitated these John Booth pearlers from the same story:
Mr Booth said contestants were judged on responses to questions about local knowledge, ambition and involvement in the community: "Beauty doesn't come into it - but we don't penalise them for being beautiful either.
"They're trying to make it out as disparaging to women but it's politically correct rubbish. There's no swimsuit competition and most judges are women," Mr Booth said. "Two women's libbers [councillors] tried to [cut support for the contest] a few years ago but they got voted down 10-2."
And on Simon's spectacular failure - one of many:
"That nitwit?" Mr Booth said. "I'm thinking about mocking him up in a dress and Orphan Annie wig in our next edition. I haven't decided yet".

Those two sat on either side of Miss Rachel, who, as queen of the day, was naturally the great attraction of the party.
Oh. The Birthday party will start!!! The most interesting part will appear. In fact, the queen of the party --- Miss Rachel who is loved deeply by the Mr. Franklin. And in the party, the Moonstone would be stolen. And I am looking forward to reading how the moonstone would be stolen. And maybe, some important clues would be found later.

I propose to tell you–in the first place–what is known of the manner in which your cousin met his death; appending to the statement such inferences and conclusions as we are justified (according to my opinion) in drawing from the facts
Sergeant Cuff's narrative is very straight forward and to the point compared to the others, especially Miss Clack. Because Cuff's intention in this narrative is to relay facts to Franklin, and also because he is a detective, Cuff uses few unnecessary adjectives or "flowery" language. I would be interested in running a POS (Parts of Speech) analysis on Cuff's narrative and compare it to Clack and Betteredge, as well as the rest of the text.
-
When the Christian hero of a hundred charitable victories plunges into a pitfall that has been dug for him by mistake, oh, what a warning it is to the rest of us to be unceasingly on our guard! How soon may our own evil passions prove to be Oriental noblemen who pounce on us unawares!
Miss Clark's narrative is embued with this sort of Sunday-school exclamations. She spontaneously took almost everything she experienced to a religious level, and she appeared to enjoy this didactic way of lecturing on human nature.
-
He has purchased my time, but not even HIS wealth can purchase my conscience too.1
Here, I find it peculiar that Miss Clark demonstrated a strong sense of self-dignity here. In spite of her deep regard of Mr.Franklin as a 'spiritually-wealthy' relative, she depicted her employment of narrating the events of the Moonstone as due to Mr.Franklin's mere caprice. In addition, in her account of her acceptance of the 'pecuniary remmuneration', she empasized the struggle it took for her Christian humility to triumph over self-pride. She seemed to feel insignificant because of her monetary disadvantages, but at the same time she was unwillingly to suppress the 'sacred truth' for the sake of Mr.Franklin's wealth.
-
Early on that memorable day, our gifted Mr. Godfrey happened to be cashing a cheque at a banking-house in Lombard Street
Miss Clack has made several mentions of wealth, poverty and other financial concerns. It seems that she correlates her narrative with economic status or financially related events, such as chasing a check. I would be interested in doing a frequency count to see how often these types of terms are used in her narrative compared to the others.
