when you hear something you know your eardrum is vibrating that goes your CIA stuff happens ships off to your brain but it's all happening in here and yet you believe you hear the dog out there and it turns out the same thing happens after about half a year of wearing this

until relatively modern times uh until really the beginning of the enlightenment of the industrial revolution people thought of progress in a moral sense 00:02:17 or a spiritual sense
for - definition - progress
definition - progress - before enlightenment, progress was defined in a moral and spiritual sense - after the enlightenment and industrial revolution, it was defined in a material sense

But the mischief was this, that, for all men could do, there was no possibility to keep them long in that relish; for in a very short while they would have stunk, which had been an undecent thing.
Going back to the previous sentence, we see that the word tripe means either part of the stomach of an animal (mainly sheep and oxen) one eats or "rubbish" as used in slang, foreword that the men the author is describing, consistently indulging in said tripes (as shown in "licked his fingers" and "mischief") the men would have stunk physically from organs and trash and metaphorically, due to overindulgence and indecency.

Erasmus Darwin’s popularity in America was so great that over a hundred children in Massachusetts between 1800 and 1850 were apparently named after him. I was so surprised to discover a half dozen of them in the remote hill-town of Ashfield where I had gone to find Dr. Charles Knowlton that I did a whole project trying to track them down.

we're beginning to demonstrate is that actually contrary to our perceptions Consciousness does not become annihilated just because a person has just died and in fact Consciousness 00:04:49 appears to continue at least in the first period the early period of death the first minutes or hours after death
-
claim with evidence
- Consciousness does not become annihilated just because a person has just died
- Consciousness appears to continue at least in the first period the early period of death the first minutes or hours after death
- Explanation
- death is a biological process
- when you stop blood flow to brain cells they undergo certain changes and will eventually become damaged
- however the first thing that happens is that you stop oxygen delivery to the areas inside the core of the brain that modulate your sense of being awake and alert
- the reticulate activating system various other parts and so it's very similar to the effect of giving a general anesthetics to somebody
- if you give a high enough dose of general anesthetic to a patient or person then you basically shut down those areas of the brain
- the person's consciousness looks like it's lost
- it flips out of sight but we wouldn't say that person's Consciousness has become annihilated forever
- we just realize it's gone temporarily and so when people first die what's happening is that oxygen is stopping to those parts of the brain and it's essentially taking Consciousness out of you and making it disappear but it doesn't necessarily disappear Forever

the big discovery of the 21st century is that actually just because someone's died and I've given them a Death Note as a physician as an intensive care physician the cells inside the body 00:02:15 have not yet died
- (cell) life after death
- cells within the body still remain alive after what a physician would normally deem a person dead.
- cells (including brain cells) go into a hibernation state for many hours after death.

I find it very tiring haha. As I said in another comment, processing a single chapter can take me a full day or two. However, I keep reminding myself that I would rather spend a day processing a chapter well, and have literature notes to serve me a lifetime (potentially, at least), rather than reading a chapter in two hours and not remember a single thing the next day. When I REALLY need a reminder of this, I just look at my "Backlog" folder which contains old "notes" that are now pretty much useless: I didn't use a reference manager consistently during my first two years of PhD so there are a lot of citations which are unreliable; I didn't really summarise texts, I only read them and highlighted; I didn't use the cloud for a long time, so I lost a lot of notes; and I didn't have Obsidian, so a lot of my notes are just contained within the context of the place I read them, rather than being connected. Seeing three years worth of useless materials, and knowing that I read a couple hundred of articles/chapters but I have nothing to show for it, that makes me more patient when writing my literature notes now. However I also find it very exciting that I can future-proof some of my notes. I feel like I'm working for my future self.
A partial answer to note taking why.

Unfortunately most init systems don't do this correctly within Docker since they're built for hardware shutdowns instead. This causes processes to be hard killed with SIGKILL, which doesn't give them a chance to correctly deinitialize things.

I have no doubt that the four children, now in their 70s and 80s, who spent their early years in the basement house would never tolerate such activity in their own neighborhoods today.

India had taken the first steps to becoming a “nation”
- The common rule under the British caused there to be a common characteristic among Indians that could turn into an Indian nationality
-
Indian entrepreneurs found ways to set up their own modern factories to rival British products.
- Some Indian businesspeople responded to the industrialization of the British with their own industrialization to outcompete them
-
The most urgent task facing the British in India was that of modernizing the subcontinent’s transportation and commu- nication system and transforming the country into an inte- grated colonial state.
- The British put a lot of investment into transportation, telegraphs, etc.
- They also invested in irrigation plans
- Resulted in one of the biggest railways in the world
- Indians had to pay for it
- Using the connections inside a geographic area to make it easier to control and make movement more efficient
-
The government also decided to collect taxes directly from peasants, displacing the landed nobles as intermediaries.
- British took taxes from peasants without letting Indian previous positions of power interfere
- Peasants had to take out loans from moneylenders
- Peasants who couldn't pay their loans would have to give up their land
-
India was to become a consumer of British manufactures and a supplier of primary staples like cotton, jute, tea, wheat, and vegetable oil seeds.
- The British economic strategy in India was to buy raw materials from India and sell Indians products, often made from those materials.
- To do this, the British got rid of taxes and protections for local businesses so they could directly compete with them
- This strategy succeeded sometimes and caused some traditional production industries to go out of business
- This arrangement meant that overall, the British got to profit off of the manufacture of these items
-
the import of British
- Putting a colonized nation in a trade deficit is a common pattern in imperialism (ex. the colonies and Britain)
-
Effects in India
- Increased economic activity in cities associated with the British, like in the Industrial Revolution in Britain, increased those city populations in the early 1800s
- Indians were segregated from Europeans in these towns
-
During the first half of the nineteenth century the British rulers of India had dismantled most of the traditional powers of the nobility and the rights of peasants.
The first half of the 1800s saw:
- the disappearance of original Indian positions of power
- the disappearance of original Indian state boundaries and sovereignties in 1848 by governor-general Lord Dalhousie
-
changes in Indian culture.
- Over the course of British imperialism, Brits seeked to replace traditional Indian cultures and religions with British culture
- An example is Lord Macaulay in 1835 looking to make English the government language and Western education central.

you could imagine my extreme disappointment after i came back after a year and a half to find that the entire exploration map was about 80% smaller, every different island was within clear view of your starting island completely decimating any sense of adventure or exploration you could have had.Almost all materials could be collected and all items built within four and a half hours. Islands are literally numbered one to five to display they're level of danger.not only that but you were practically spoon fed each advancement in the game, it feels like it was taken from a greatly ambitious open world, exploration survival game that would take months to finish and achieve everything in. To now being an arcade style iphone app game catered to ten year olds that would foolishly enter their parents card details in order to buy 10,000 roblox coins.

I have over 689 hours into this game and would like to talk about the changes made to the Exploration. In my opinion the Exploration which made this game amazing now stinks!. You know longer need a ship to hit the islands. The exploration has pretty much been removed. One of the things that made this game so amazing was grinding to make your ship and heading out to Explore and find the other islands. Now all the islands are really close to the spawn point, there are not that many and well they stink. There is no reason or need to make a ship because you can easily reach all the island with a raft.

Chest radiography was repeated on day 4 and showed no thoracic abnormalities. Transthoracic echocardiography, performed on day 6, revealed a significant reduction of LV wall thickness (interventricular septum, 11 mm; posterior wall, 10 mm), an improvement of LVEF to 44%, and a slight decrease of pericardial effusion (maximum, 8-9 mm). At the time of submission, the patient was hospitalized with progressive clinical and hemodynamic improvement.

On-Site Work
This work was in schools with teachers, right? When foundations and funders of after school programs ask about how to "spread and scale" the work, it baffles me that they don't begin to answer their questions by turning to how to effectively bring the innovative after school work to teachers and students in schools. Working on the connections between in school and out of school learning is important!

He who was living is now dead We who were living are now dying
The circle of life, revolves around death and life but also the in-between and what we don't know about the after life is a big mystery, which takes us back to the unseen, the living dead, or just the dead. It reminds me of the lilacs that bloom from dead land, which could possibly signify that even though we lose people, we also gain new life.
