Conversations are the ultimate intersection. It's where the rubber meets the road. Where we leave the safety of our own mind and force ourselves to make our nebulous ideas legible to ourselves and others. It's dangerous to be at intersections. Thoughts are going in all directions. You might have to merge lanes. You might miss a light. Someone honks at you. Random pedestrians dash out without warning. You might not even know where you're going.
i love this analogy!
it's dangerous to be at the intersection but it's where you get closer to where you're going

summary - This is a good review paper that summarizes findings from two decades of water research on river basins and watersheds, - It highlights how recent Anthropocene research shows the global interconnected nature of water systems, - which makes the traditional River Basin Organization form of local governance challenging since - variability in localities far from the governed river basin or watershed can have significant impact on it and vice versa - New governance systems must emerge to deal with this complexity

The device of Alice may be offline, e.g., smartphone discharged. We can't assume constant connectivity.

For me as travelling consultant, but also as a private citizen, having ubiquitous access to my on-line material is crucial. It is my premier gateway to my social networks as well as my work. When during the move last month we were thrown back to using a 52k dial-in phoneline for a week I felt both blind, deaf and mute.
I wrote this March 2006, a year before the announcement of the iPhone, and more than two years before the iPhone3G, and it became available first in the Netherlands. When I mention access here, it's not about mobile data (smartphones didn't exist yet), but about internet access in general and wifi in particular.

That number comes within a larger $65 billion sum going toward broadband connectivity. What makes the $2.75 billion within that significant is that it is aimed at digital inclusion, the work of giving people skills to use technology, affordable long-term access to it, and the devices they need to benefit from it in meaningful ways.

This is huge! The connection between connectivity and opportunity are where the intent of the UN Universal Human Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression through any media and regardless of frontiers comes into play.

But this was before Facebook. It was before we all started merging our online and offline lives. The internet hadn’t gone corporate; websites were ephemeral things. Your friendships on a site existed only within the space of that site; if you lost one, you lost the other.

He realised that if Internet.org took hold in India, Facebook would be the gatekeeper to the web for hundreds of millions who had no idea what the internet was, or what it could do for them.
The idea that some internet is better than no internet is ridiculous. Poor people in developing nations deserve the same Internet as the rest of the world.
