Trump Embarrasses All of America in Slurred, Disjointed Davos Speech<br /> by [[Malcolm Ferguson]] for The New Republic accessed on 2026-01-21T10:19:18
embarrassment is the word for this... he can't even distinguish Greenland and Iceland, one of which he wants to take over and which he's spoken about repeatedly in the past months.

“Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. “Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. “I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT”
This letter, one can't even begin to unpack. What it says about the mind of Trump, his current mental health, or about what it means to have a toddler setting US foreign policy based on personal resentments

many greenlandic people realized that we are most we are much much more worth than than we thought we were because we have always compared ourselves only with Denmark and Denmark and we have been living on the colony for the last 300 years under Denmark and we have been so how do you call it been seen as less worthy uh human beings and now someone else showing this interest is actually a huge wake up call

our latest science at the Potsdam Institute shows that the Greenland Ice Sheet is connected to the West Antarctic Ice Sheet over the ocean circulation of heat. And that the whole AMOC, the North Atlantic overturning of heat, is slowing down because of the release of cold fresh water from the Greenland Ice Sheet. And when that slows down it locks in more warm surface water, saline surface water, in the Southern Ocean. 00:13:55 Which can explain why Antarctica is melting more rapidly than predicted.

- Greenland ice sheet melt releasing cold fresh water is slowing down the North Atlantic overturning of heat.
- The slowdown is keeping more warm saline water in place in the Southern Ocean, accelerating melting of the Antarctic ice sheet.

In a recent paper published in Nature Climate Change, scientists found that major sea-level rise from the melting of the Greenland ice cap is now ‘inevitable’ even if the burning of fossil fuels were to halt overnight. Using satellite observations of Greenland ice loss and ice cap from 2000 to 2019, the team found the losses will lead to a minimum rise of 27 cm regardless of climate change.
A great example of the lag that large, complex systems exhibit when responding to significant input changes.
Lag is something that humans are woefully weak at recognizing and understanding. This, and other systems concepts are what we need to add to the curriculum at all levels of education, to change this very significant shortcoming of "common knowledge".
