"Forget about computational models -- let's see the physical world itself as a sequence of unchanging states. Let's think about and work with the physical world as a frozen sequence of states. Let's decouple time from reality, and be able to freely pan across time and abstract over time in the physical world."

contexture, n Etymology: < French contexture (Montaigne, 1572–80), = Italian contestura (Florio), probably representing a medieval Latin *contextūra , < context– participial stem of contexĕre : compare Latin textūra texture n. Very common in 17th cent.; now rare. 1. a. The action or process of weaving together or intertwining; the fact of being woven together; the manner in which this is done, texture. [….] 2. a. transferred. The linking together of materials or elements, so as to form a connected structure (natural or artificial); the manner in which the parts of a thing are thus united. […] 1662 E. Stillingfleet Origines Sacræ iii. ii. §14 Without this there cannot be imagined any concourse of Atoms at all, much less any such contexture of bodyes out of them. [….] b. figurative of things non-material. 1672 A. Marvell Rehearsal Transpros’d i. 29 The Roman Church, having by a regular Contexture of continued Policy..interwoven itself with the Secular Interest. [….] 3. The structure, composition, or texture of anything made up by the combination of elements. Now chiefly figurative from 1. [….] 1749 H. Fielding Tom Jones VI. xvi. vii. 59 Women are of a nice Contexture, and our Spirits when disordered are not to be recomposed in a Moment. [….] 4. That which is put together or constructed by the intertwining of parts. a. quasi-concrete. A mass of things interwoven together. [….] 1667 Philos. Trans. (Royal Soc.) 2 491 The Corpus Callosum is nothing but a Contexture of small Fibres. [….] b. An interwoven structure, a fabric. [….] 1664 H. Power Exper. Philos. i. 17 How many thousand parts of Matter must go to make up this heterogeneous Contexture? [….] 5. a. The weaving together of words, sentences, etc. in connected composition; the construction or composition of a writing as consisting of connected and coherent members. […] b. The connected structure or ‘body’ of a literary composition; a connected passage or composition. c. = context n. 4. [OED second edition (1989)] The first four definitions relate to weaving in material and immaterial forms. Only the fifth definition relates to writing or literary composition … but that’s where the confusion comes in. A common interpretation associates context with text (as in language), rather than with texture (as with weaving).

To attempt an answer demands one radically reimagine one’s relationship to machines, the value of time, and the purpose of writing. Maybe there would be no typewriter and life would be governed by a different conception of the clock. Maybe the clock would only tell the time and not dictate how one should live in it. Maybe nothing would take too much time. Maybe no dream would be out of time.

facing adversity and getting yourself out of a tight spot are invaluable. “It’s not a cause for sadness – it’s the quintessential experience of life
-
“But the problem you’re confronting has incredibly high information content: It’s telling you about key weaknesses in your idea. And often, it’s giving you the clue you need to solve it.”
-
“Often you confront a problem, and if it feels bad, you want to deny it for a while. Then, when you accept it, you want to turn and run in the other direction,”

in the planning process, people are actually choosing an ensemble of paths – and when you get knocked off one course, you usually have the ability to switch to a different path
-
Expect twists and turns
-
Much of the framework that Fischbach teaches is essentially about making the plan before you set out to solve anything.
-
Take, for example, being interested in both artificial intelligence and climate change. You might move forward assuming that you should simply combine the two interests. But artificial intelligence may not be the right tool for the climate change issue you wanted to address. Forcing the connection between the two as your solution – rather than focusing on the main problem and keeping the approach to solving it flexible – may lead to getting stuck down the line.
-
a number of possible ways
-
Keep the details flexible
-
“You have to be very honest with yourself about what you’re solving for. If you get that wrong, you might make it hard for other people to understand why you’re doing what you’re doing,” said Fischbach. “So, ask yourself: What is your motivation? What are you aiming for? It’s easier for you to understand what you’re trying to do if you can articulate your goal.”
-
Getting other people on board is easier that way too. If you develop a keen awareness of the risks involved with your process, you have better odds of convincing others that the risks are worth it.
-
Sometimes you feel like you need to find something that is sure to succeed. But nothing worth doing has that profile – nothing in life.
-
conversation is an important part of the problem picking process because others may spot traps
-
His framework cautions people against choosing problems just because they’re easy, specializing so much that the problem is no longer useful, joining a trend too late, blaming external factors for issues you come across, and only copying the process of people you observe, rather than developing the actual process yourself.
-

Although open-source Linux has a global impact in servers, cloud environments, and the internet’s core infrastructure, its adoption in consumer-facing systems remains limited. Efforts to develop Linux-based national operating systems have struggled to achieve scale, yet Linux’s flexibility, security, and alignment with European values make it a critical asset for enhancing digital strategic autonomy.

The mainline is an active branch, with regular drops of new and modified code. Keeping it healthy is important so that when people start new work, they are starting off a stable base. If it's healthy enough, you can also release code directly from mainline into production.
-
In many of these cases a tag is sufficient most of the time, and branch only opened if there's some essential change required to the source.
-
this pattern becomes essential when teams need to manage multiple versions in production.
-
Despite the value of release branches, most of the best teams don't use this pattern for single-production products, because they don't need to. If the mainline is kept sufficiently healthy, then any commit to mainline can be released directly. In that case releases should be tagged with a publicly visible version and build number.
-
Release branches are a valuable tool when a team isn't able to keep their mainline in a healthy state.
-
Many customers are reluctant to upgrade unless they have compelling new features, having been burned by upgrades that fail.
-
Teams that only have one version in production at a time will only need a single release branch, but some products will have many releases present in production use.
-
A typical release branch will copy from the current mainline, but not allow any new features to added to it.
-
Often team trust is the most important factor in the Feature Branch versus Continuous Integration argument.
-
Feature Branching also discourages developers from making changes that aren't seen as part of the feature being built, which undermines the ability of refactoring to steadily improve a code base.
-
This prerequisite does mean that Feature Branching is better for teams that don't force a Healthy Branch and require release branches to stabilize code before release.
-
higher frequency of integration leads to less involved integration and less fear of integration. This is often a difficult thing to communicate. If you've lived in a world of integrating every few weeks or months, integration is likely to be a very fraught activity.
-
We're less like individuals hacking away independently and more like a team working together.
-
What a lot of people don't realize is that a source control system is a communication tool.
