    1. the development of media technologies and their global distribution have long since made usfamiliar with the idea that we ourselves are media.

This claim relates to later statements about humans being in the middle (like medium thinking as media being both an infrastructure of how we act and are) of the pandemic mediation in that humans are part of the process of transformation and intersection between themselves and other nonhuman powers. I think intersection in this instance is more of a cooperative and cohesive existence with nonhuman and human entities that naturally intersect.

    1. arguing that intimacy should hold space for strangeness, where all beings canbe their full selves, however incomprehensible those selves may be to others

The concept of intimacy here provides an alternative response to our "instinct" or tendency to distance ourselves from the things we find strange. Rather than fleeing from the strange thing, one makes intentional, deep contact with it.

    2. o ignore or deny the ways we see ourselves inanimals might enable our exploitation of them, such as through factory farms.

The claim furthers the later points about humans empathy and anthropomorphism as a an appreciation practice towards incomprehensible objects or things. While humans inclination again may be to oppose those things, it creates a sense of reverence towards their "otherness" if you will.

This claim of the sensors data and monitoring of the common planet creates a sense-able Earth digital planet which requires a review of how environmental data and monitoring might arrive and exhibit different planetary inhabitations and relations. Thus these sensors express how observation practices are both experiences of the Earth and expressions of how to collectively inhabit Earth. This kinda of relates to Imbler's idea of collectively actively inhabiting the Earth through anthropomorphism.

    1. as though one were looking at the cosmos from afixed perspective, but rather to capture the temporal unfolding of a visualawareness that unites us with the cosmos in the very moment that it dividesus from ourselves.

This claim of the art capturing the temporal unfolding of a visual awareness that unites us with the cosmos in the very moment and divides us from ourselves furthers his later statements on the art both opening the visual field that (in the instance of the stars in the painting) gives the atmosphere of the sky as long as it merges with the field of the viewer or artists attention connecting ourselves with the cosmos.

    1. Internal validity refers to the concept that a prediction model mustbe derived from the study sample in such a way that the modelcoefficients accurately reflect the true relationships between thepredictor variables and the outcome of interest. Internal validitytherefore requires that the prediction model be derived from anappropriately structured and assembled cohort.

    1. in human memory they call it external context um so we have 00:35:59 so the external context for instance is the the spatial cues and the other items that are kind of attached to the note right

Theory: The external context of one's physical surroundings (pen, paper, textures, sounds, smells, etc.) combined with the internal context, the learner's psychological state, mood, etc., comprises a potentially closed system where each part props up the other for the best learning outcomes.

Do neurodiversity effects help/hinder this process? What if people are missing one or more of these bits of contextualization? What does the literature look like in this space? Research?

    1. I've observed for myself that not all weeks of writing are made equal. When I do try to impose a schedule on myself – like resolving that ‘I'll write for three hours every day and hit 1200 words’ – it can work out OK, but it’s usually not that great. But I have learned that when I’m really on a roll – when I’ve found a voice that’s really working and that I’m excited about – I need to just clear the decks and go with it. I will empty my schedule, dive in, and stay up late in order to be as productive as I can. I would say this is how I got both of my novels written.

Robin Sloan's writing process sounds similar to that of Niklas Luhmann where he chose to work on things that seemed exciting and fun. This is, in part, helped by having a large quantity of interesting notes to work off of. They both used them as stores to fire their internal motivation to get work done.

    1. We need a reliable and simple external structure tothink in that compensates for the limitations of our brains

Let's be honest that there are certainly methods for doing all of this within our brains and not needing to rely on external structures. This being said, using writing, literacy, and external structures does allow us to process things faster than before.

Can we calculate what the level of greater efficiency allows for doing this? What is the overall throughput difference in being able to forget and write? Not rely on communication with others? What does a back of the envelope calculation for this look like?

    1. The possibility of arbitrary internal branching.

Modern digital zettelkasten don't force the same sort of digital internal branching process that is described by Niklas Luhmann. Internal branching in these contexts is wholly reliant on the user to create it.

Many digital systems will create a concrete identifier to fix the idea within the system, but this runs the risk of ending up with a useless scrap heap.

Some modern systems provide the ability for one to add taxonomies like subject headings in a commonplace book tradition, which adds some level of linking. But if we take the fact that well interlinked cards are the most valuable in such a system then creating several links upfront may be a bit more work, but it provides more value in the long run.

Upfront links also don't require quite as much work at the card's initial creation as the creator already has the broader context of the idea. Creating links at a future date requires the reloading into their working memory of the card's idea and broader context.

Of course there may also be side benefits (including to memory) brought by the spaced repetition of the card's ideas as well as potential new contexts gained in the interim which may help add previously unconsidered links.

It can certainly be possible that at some level of linking, there is a law of diminishing returns the decreases the value of a card and its idea.

One of the benefits of physical card systems like Luhmann's is that the user is forced to add the card somewhere, thus making the first link of the idea into the system. Luhmann's system in particular creates a parent/sibling relation to other cards or starts a brand new branch.

    1. The only piece of note taking software on the market that currently supports this feature (that I’m aware of) is Microsoft OneNote.

OneNote supported on-the-fly interlinking with Double Square Bracket Linking

    2. Evernote had long been the gold standard of note taking, flexible, functional and best of all affordable. While its user interface was a little odd at times, the features were excellent, but they made the simple mistake of not enabling wiki style internal links. Instead, they required a user to copy a note link from one note and paste it into another.

Evernote made the mistake of not allowing on-the-fly wiki-style internal linking.

      internal: [[Prototype]]

Other times we see something used to indicate it is internal. In fact, this even supersedes proto__. So why did they use a different naming convention? Did they decide [[ ]] is a better naming convention?

    1. two fingers on

With the "lifted" way that the Leila and Laura are transported, this seems a rather weak grasp for the chaos/crowdedness of their travel...I think this phrase shows how Leila is out of touch with her literal experience, doesn't take ownership or responsibility for what happens ("lifted" implies a third party who lifts), and yet still experiences things even though her grip (ha) on reality is weak.

    2. little satin shoes chased each other like birds.

Yet another phrase that has to do with the complicated relationship between internal/external? The comparison of the shoes to birds that "chase each other" seems to be the opposite of what we saw in the car - here, Leila is project her sense of freedom that she experiences internally to interpret and give meaning to things she sees externally.

    3. her own little corner of it

A genius use of a phrase - describes Leila's physical separation and location from the rest of the group, but also her emotional/internal separation from her external experience! Also gives me slight Cinderella complex vibes..

    1. withindex.js, we have a single source of truth, giving fine grained control on what we expose to the outside world.
    2. import statements will become much smaller, as we will be importing stuff from less files. For example AbstractNode.js has only on import statement now, where it had two before.
    3. The reason that this solves our problem is: we now have full control over the module loading order. Whatever the import order in internal.js is, will be our module loading order.
    4. Here are few, real-life commits of refactorings that make use of this solution:
    5. The crux of this pattern is to introduce an index.js and internal.js file.

Since constant DNA quantities of the control virus are coextracted even when RNA isolation kits are used (H. G. M. Niesters, personal communication; our own unpublished observations), the virus can also serve as a control in RNA virus detection assays.
    1. Thrombosis of the internal jugular veins caused by blunt trauma can occur unilaterally or bilaterally and is often discovered incidentally because most patients are asymptomatic. Bilateral thrombosis can aggravate cerebral edema in patients with serious head injuries; stent placement should be considered in such patients if ICP remains elevated.

blunt trauma can cause thrombosis of int jugular veins asymptotically, can cause cerebral edema if bilateral in serious head inj, and if ICP remained elevated stenting should be considered

    2. Tangential wounds of the internal jugular vein should be repaired by lateral venorrhaphy, but extensive wounds are efficiently addressed by ligation. However, it is not advisable to ligate both jugular veins due to potential intracranial hypertension.

for tangential inj of int jugular vein lateral vonorrhaphy is used and for extensive damages, ligation, but not bilaterally to preventing IC HTN.

    1. In an observational study of 14 patients, no subjects developed any cardiac or skeletal disease after receiving doses from 25- to 150mcg over a two-year period.41

Note that the high dose was because they were increasing the dose based on symptoms. That is to say, as the thyroid gland produced less thyroid hormone, they increased liothyronine dose to compensate.

    1. The substitution of l-T3 for l-T4 at equivalent doses (relative to the pituitary) reduced body weight and resulted in greater thyroid hormone action on the lipid metabolism, without detected differences in cardiovascular function or insulin sensitivity.

This implies that T4 and T3 are not identical, but I want to check the study further to see if half-life comes into play. The T3 group could theoretically have higher daily thyroidergic exposure, but maintain TSH because they experience a daily dip. Multiple dosing at least partly solves this issue. Controlled release tablets would be ideal.

    1. At the final study visit, subjects were asked whether they thought their L-T4 doses at the end of the study were higher, lower, or unchanged from the start of the study and which of the two doses they preferred. Subjects were not able to accurately ascertain changes in L-T4 doses (P = 0.54)

The study does not provide enough information to determine whether this is meaningful. It appears to be meaningless. If they had used a crossover design, then this might be useful.

That sounds incredibly high to me. 3000 mg is the absolute maximum intake that could ever be considered 'low' sodium. Under 1500 is usually considered ideal. Would, then, a diet aiming for half the sodium be twice as effective?

I often lean more towards the “ends justify the means” side of the philosophical spectrum, and for me, this falls into that category. Pat Brown, Impossible Foods’ founder and CEO, has been vegetarian for four decades and vegan (if the vegan police are still letting him call himself that) for 14 years. I’ve read his statement on the issue, and while I still have no idea what I would have done in his situation, I fully understand how he arrived at the difficult conclusion that he needed to allow the testing.

This isn't spot on for me, but pretty close.

    1. From this definition of happiness it follows that its constituent parts are: -- good birth, plenty of friends, good friends, wealth, good children, plenty of children, a happy old age, also such bodily excellences as health, beauty, strength, large stature, athletic powers, together with fame, honour, good luck, and virtue. A man cannot fail to be completely independent if he possesses these internal and these external goods; for besides these there are no others to have.

      What is happiness?

    1. He must, therefore, know how many different forms of constitution there are; under what conditions each of these will prosper and by what internal developments or external attacks each of them tends to be destroyed. When I speak of destruction through internal developments I refer to the fact that all constitutions, except the best one of all, are destroyed both by not being pushed far enough and by being pushed too far.
