        • the tragedy of such myopic relationships and exploitation is that we miss the opportunity to hold cross-cultural dialogues to explore what happens when two human cultures that have developed in isolation meet for the first time.
        • the marvel of modern lights to the Jawara, and their quick embrace of it and expression of wonder is reminiscent of the chronicles of earlier European explorers/colonizers who exposed modern inventions and cultural artefacts to aboriginals many centuries earlier

This is a problem with one new participant of a session I take part in regularly. I have been too polite to say anything, but the breathing is constant and loud. I am sure everyone is annoyed but no-one wants to be the bad guy. I wish the meeting's host would do everyone a favor and say something or mute the offender, thus creating a less distracting environment for all.

When people aren't aware of basic mic etiquette and don't develop the habit of turning off their mic except when talking, this happens. Reminding people to turn off mic or enforcing it is in my opinion squarely the host's responsibility.

I think those who participate in online meetings (this means many of us) should develop greater self-awareness and learn proper online etiquette.

    1. In our current moment in which casual conversations in the hallway or impromptu office visits are impossible, you have to be using meeting scheduling services that allow people to select a time from your list of available times. Use calend.ly, use Acuity, use the features built into Microsoft Outlook,  and if you’re setting up a group meeting, use Doodle. But do not let this coordination unfold as a slow back-and-forth exchange of messages, as this is guaranteed to keep you in a state of constant, agitated inbox checking.

You get the feeling from the way this is written that Anne is observing from some place else

    1. But, let's turn our attention to HyFlex for a moment.

Great points here! How many of our experiments with hybrid online-F2F experiences failed fundamentally because of bad design? "No boundaries" is not a design, and "all things to all people" is not inclusion.

    2. Also, your issue isn't feeling exhausted due to "not being with smart people in a room".  Those same smart people are on Zoom.  Your issue is the overabundance of meetings and zoom fatigue.

There's also some cherry picking here (in Kim's original piece). I love a good F2F meeting, but let's remember "conference room fatigue". Some gatherings of smart people consume more energy than they produce. (Like "zoom fatigue" sometimes it's the affordances of the room - bad lighting, uncomfortable chairs, etc - and sometimes it's because of behavior in the meeting.)

    1. family meeting. Following the lead of the Starrs and others, we ask three questions, all adapted from agile: 1) What went well in our family this week? 2) What didn't go well? 3) What will we agree to work on this week?

    1. Comments are turned off.

I'd like to ask everyone to watch this 19 second long "public meeting" with comments disabled so you can see what a joke Government is.

If you agree, please re-share. If you disagree, please explain how you think this could possibly be legitimate in the comments.

    1. an objective set for the Sprint that can be met through the implementation of Product Backlog. It provides guidance to the Development Team on why it is building the Increment. It is created during the Sprint Planning meeting. The Sprint Goal gives the Development Team some flexibility regarding the functionality implemented within the Sprint. The selected Product Backlog items deliver one coherent function, which can be the Sprint Goal. The Sprint Goal can be any other coherence that causes the Development Team to work together rather than on separate initiatives.

    1. Only two conditions are to be insisted upon, that our hearer or companion should have an earnest desire to learn the truth, and should have capacity of mind to receive it in whatever form it may be communicated

This is a good change between meeting your audience at their level from earlier philosophers and now you gotta make sure they are up to your level.
