"There is a large literature relating to twins in their purely surgical and physiological aspect. The reader interested in this should consult Die Lehre von den Zwillingen, von L. Kleinwächter, Prag. 1871. It is full of references, but it is also unhappily disfigured by a number of numerical misprints, especially in page 26. I have not found any book that treats of twins from my present point of view."
-
"But twins have a special claim upon our attention; it is, that their history affords means of distinguishing between the effects of tendencies received at birth, and of those that were imposed by the special circumstances of their after lives."

- We make assumptions and determinations about what is real every moment of every day. Our perception, in other words, is so deeply buried in our “underlying machinery,” our unconscious, that even knowing that it is there makes it difficult, or impossible to see its impact on our thinking and on what we see as real.
- Unconscious perceptions govern many of the most important decisions we make and have a profound effect on the lives of many people in many ways.
-
Seven Steps to Identify and Address Unconscious Bias 1. Recognize that you have biases. 2. Identify what those biases are. 3. Dissect your biases. 4. Decide which of your biases you will address first. 5. Look for common interest groups. 6. Get rid of your biases. 7. Be mindful of bias kick back.
-
Human beings, at some level, need bias to survive. So, are we biased? Of course. Virtually every one of us is biased toward something, somebody, or some group.
-
While the language of oppression is still with us, new words continue to emerge that are more accurate and descriptive, and allow us to be more successful in ameliorating oppression and more productive in our interactions with each other. If humankind can relearn the language of diversity, then we can relearn how to respect and treat each other with honor, dignity and love

In time of war and separation, the letters to andfrom soldiers serving on the front lines were precious signs of life.They were avowals of love and longings for home. They describedthe battlefield and conditions of military occupation and eventuallyprovided historians with crucial documents about popular attitudestoward the war and knowledge about the Holocaust.

Setapart from the familiar social contexts of family, work, and school,the closed camp was designed to break down identifications withsocial milieus and to promote Entbürgerlichung (purging bourgeoiselements) and Verkameradshaftung (comradeship) as part of theprocess of Volkwerdung, “the making of the people,” as the pecu-liar idiom of National Socialism put it.
entbürgerlichung - purging bourgeois elements
verkameradshaftung - comradeship

Criticism of the disruption of publicorder was widespread, but should not be taken completely at facevalue. It undoubtedly veiled deeper moral objections that were oth-erwise difficult to articulate in Nazi Germany

The startling events of the spring of 1933, when more andmore Germans realized that they were not supposed to shop inJewish stores and when German companies felt compelled to fireJewish employees and remove Jewish businessmen from corporateboards, moved Germany quite some distance toward the ultimategoal of “Aryanizing” the German economy.
-
Public humiliations such as these depended on bystanders willing totake part in the spectacle. They accelerated the division of neigh-borhoods into “us” and “them.
-
As thousands of new converts joined the para-military units of the SA, whose numbers shot up ninefold from500,000 in January 1933 to 4.5 million one year later, the scale ofantisemitic actions expanded dramatically. Becoming a Nazi meanttrying to become an antisemite as well.
-
The idea of normality had become racialized, so that entitlement tolife and prosperity was limited to healthy Aryans, while newly iden-tified ethnic aliens such as Jews and Gypsies, who before 1933had been ordinary German citizens, and newly identified biologicalaliens such as genetically unfit individuals and so-called “asocials”were pushed outside the people’s community and threatened withisolation, incarceration, and death.

The rou-tine intervention of the police in the corners of daily life of Germancitizens explains why the Gestapo assumed the “almost mythicalstatus as an all-seeing, all-knowing” creature that had placed itsagents throughout the land to overhear conversations in order toenforce political conformity

Did shesympathize a little bit with people who were not considered wor-thy? Perhaps so, because Gisela recalled the incident in postwar in-terviews; but other Germans continued to improve themselves bygrooming themselves as Aryans, sitting up straighter, filling out thetable of ancestors, and fitting in at the camps, which gave legiti-macy to the selection process that had created Gisela’s anxiety inthe first place

With the massive expansion of the Hitler Youthto include girls as well as boys, more than 765,000 young peoplehad the opportunity to serve in leadership roles. The consciousness of generation, and the assumption thatold needed to be replaced with new, undoubtedly opened youngminds to the tenets of racial hygiene, which were repeatedly parsedin workshops and lectures.
-
Boththe Hitler Youth and the Reich Labor Service aimed to mix bour-geois and working-class youths in order to pull down social barriersto the formation of national race consciousness.

Enrollment for four years in theHitler Youth and then six months in the Reich Labor Service wasmade mandatory for boys in 1936 and for girls three years later

Filled with photographs, graphs, and tables, thepropaganda of the Office for Racial Politics made the crucial dis-tinction between quantity and quality—Zahl und Güte—easy tounderstand. Unlike Streicher’s vulgar antisemitic newspaper, DerStürmer, the Neues Volk appeared to be objective, a sobering state-ment of the difficult facts of life
hiding behind objectivity. ppl saying things and being like well its just fact w/o the ability to double check
-
By the middle of 1937 the Office of Racial Politics hadtrained over 2,000 “racial educators,” who on the basis of an eight-week course in Berlin received a special speaker’s certificate enti-tling them to address Germans on population and race policy. Certi-fication was part of the effort to make German racism objective
-
vast network of Gemeinschaftslager or com-munity camps was established across Germany; at one point or an-other, most Germans passed through them. Alongside concentra-tion camps and killing camps, the training camps were fundamentalparts of the Nazi racial project.

But it also made demands on ordinary Germans, who neededto visualize the Volk as a vital racial subject, to choose appropriatemarriage partners, and to accept “limits to empathy.”

The journalistSebastian Haffner noted that people in his circle in Berlin suddenlyfelt authorized to express an opinion on the “Jewish question,”speaking fluently about quotas on Jews, percentages of Jews, anddegrees of Jewish influence

Pliny the Elder [1st century CE] (Natural History, Book 10, 66): Pelicans have a resemblance to swans, and would be thought not to differ from them at all were it not that they have a kind of second stomach in their actual throats. Into this the insatiable creature stows everything, so that its rapacity is marvelous. Afterwards when it has done plundering it gradually returns the things from this pouch into its mouth and passes them into the true stomach like a ruminant animal. These birds come to us from the extreme north of Gaul. - [Rackham translation]
In his Natural History (Book 10, 66), Pliny the Elder indicates that pelicans resemble swans, but have a second stomach in their throats into which they insatiably and rapaciously stow everything only later passing them into their true stomachs like ruminant animals.

Your zettelkasten, having a perfect memory of your "past self" acts as a ratchet so that when you have a new conversation on a particular topic, your "present self" can quickly remember where you left off and not only advance the arguments but leave an associative trail for your "future self" to continue on again later.
Many thoughts and associations occur when you're having conversations with any text, whether it's with something you're reading by another author or your own notes in your zettelkasten or commonplace book. For more conversations on this topic, perhaps thumb through: https://hypothes.is/users/chrisaldrich?q=tag%3A%27conversations+with+the+text%27
If you view conversations broadly as means of finding and collecting information from external sources and naturally associating them together, perhaps you'll appreciate this quote:
No piece of information is superior to any other. Power lies in having them all on file and then finding the connections. There are always connections; you have only to want to find them.—Umberto Eco in Foucault's Pendulum (Secker & Warburg)

It obviously may not in the Western practice, but perhaps the client may more easily come to terms with those around them as a result, and this is more beneficial than a "truer" outcome?

adjacency - between - Michael Mann - 2nd Trump presidency - exceeding planetary boundaries - exceeding 1.5 Deg C - Trump's presidency is existential threat to humanity - Gen Z voting - 2024 election - adjacency statement - Michael Mann's quote " A second Trump term is game over for the climate - really" applies to the 2024 election if Trump becomes the Republican nominee. - Trumps dismal environmental record in his 2016 to 2020 term speaks for itself. He would do something similiar in 2025 if he were the president. G - Given there are only 5 years and 172 days before we hit the dangerous threshold of burning through all the carbon budget for humanity, - https://climateclock.world/ - It is questionable whether Biden's government alone can do enough, but certainly if Trump won the 2024 election, his term in office would create a regression severe enough to put the Paris Climate goal of staying within 1.5 Deg C out of reach, and risk triggering major planetary tipping points - A Biden government is evidence-based and believes in anthropogenic climate change and is already taking measures to mitigate it. A Trump government is not evidence-based and is supported by incumbent fossil fuel industry so does not have the interest of the U.S. population nor all of humanity at heart. - Hence, the 2024 U.S. election can really determine the fate of humanity. - Gen Z can play a critical role for humanity by voting against a government that would, in leading climate scientists Michael Mann's words, be game over for a stable climate, and therefore put humanity and unimaginable risk. - Gen Z can swing the vote to a government willing to deal with the climate crisis over one in climate denial so voting activists need to be alerted to this and create the right messaging to reach Gen Z - https://hyp.is/LOud7sBBEe6S0D8itLHw1A/circle.tufts.edu/latest-research/41-million-members-gen-z-will-be-eligible-vote-2024

He urges the reader in a way to think about reincarnation which is obviously a big part of his character. "The place of the infinite spirit" (line 851) Krishna fits a representation of love, duty, honor and self control. Learning what type of character type Krishna is this early on is important to keep in mind as the story is read. If the reader doesn't understand the true depth of his character the story may not be as powerful. He shows many attributes of a fully developed character that knows the true power of who they are. In HIndu culture, a character like Krishna is all powerful but also shows a variety of character traits that make him a very admirable character.

i want to now uh introduce the key concept in in whitehead's mature metaphysics concrescence
for - key insight - concrescence - definition - concrescence - Whitehead - definition - The many become the one - Whitehead - definition - Res Potentia - Tim Eastman - definition - superject - Whitehead - definition - moment of satisfaction - Whitehead - definition - dipolar - Whitehead - definition - ingression - Whitehead definition - CONCRESCENCE - is the description of the phases of the iterative process by which reality advances from the past into the present then into the future - this definition is metaphysical and applies to all aspects of reality
-
Concrescence is the process by which
- THE MANY BECOME THE ONE and
- THE MANY ARE INCREASED BY ONE
- The "many" here refers to the past
- the perished objects in the past environment
-
There's another domain that whitehead makes reference to
- He's a platonist in this sense, though he's a reformed platonist
- He makes reference to this realm of eternal objects which for him are pure possibilities
- i was mentioning Tim Eastman earlier
- He calls this domain "RES POTENTIA", the realm of possibilities which have not yet been actualized
- And so for Whitehead
- the realm of possibility is infinite
- the realm of actuality is finite
- In the realm of actuality, there's a limited amount of certain types of experience which have been realized
- but the realm of actuality draws upon this plenum of possibility and
- it's because there is this plenum of possibility in relationship to the realm of actuality that
- novelty is possible
- new things can still happen we're not just constantly repeating the past
-
Whitehead describes the process of concrescence or each drop of experience as DIPOLAR, having two poles:
- a physical pole and
- a mental pole
-
Each concrescence or drop of experience begins with the physical pole
- where the perished objects of the past environment are apprehended or felt and
- these feelings of the past grow together into this newly emerging drop of experience
- and then in the process of their growing together
- the actualized perished objects of the past environment
- are brought into comparison with eternal objects or pure potentials possibilities and
- these possibilities INGRESS so
there's
- INGRESSION of eternal objects and
- PREHENSION of past actualities
- INGRESSION of potentials PREHENSIONS of past actualities
-
and what the ingression of eternal objects do is provide each occasion of experience, each concrescence with
- the opportunity to interpret the past differently
- to say maybe it's not like that maybe it's like this
- and so these ingressions come into the mental pole
-
If the physical pole is what initiates the experience of each concrescing occasion
- the mental pole is is a subsequent process that compares
- what's been felt in the past with
- what is possible alternatives that could be experienced that are not given yet in the past
- the mental pole is is a subsequent process that compares
-
The subjective form is how the occasion fills the past
- The subjective aim is what draws the many feelings of the past towards the unification and the mental pole
- where
- the ingression of eternal objects and
- the feelings of past actualities
- are brought together into what Whitehead calls this MOMENT OF SATISFACTION
- where
- it's the culmination of the process of concrescence
- where a new perspective on the universe is achieved - This is the many have become one
- They are increased by one when the satisfaction is achieved
- It's a new perspective on the whole
- As soon as this new perspective is achieved
- it becomes a SUPERJECT which is not a subject enjoying its own experience anymore
- it's a perished subject
- The superject is the achieved perspective that has been experienced
- but then perishes itself int a superject-hood to become
- one among the many that will be inherited by the next moment of experience, the next concrescence and
- This superject has objective immortality in the sense that
- every subsequent concrescence will inherit the satisfaction achieved by the prior concrescences
-
And so this is the most general account in Whitehead's view that we can offer
- of the nature of reality
- the nature of the passage of nature
- the movement
- out of the past
- through the present and
- into the future
-
Experience is always in the present and the satisfaction that is achieved by each moment of concrescence is enjoyed in the present
- but as soon as we achieve that
- it perishes and the next moment of concrescence arises to inherit what was achieved
- and this is an iterative process
- it's repeating constantly and it's cumulative
- It's a process of growth
- building on what's been achieved in the past
-

cheap energy is a hell of a drug. we found it 200 years ago, our trip peaked about 20 years ago, and now we are getting sober, and most people hate it, because most people are stupid and have no "plan B", and when SHTF they will commit suicide, and before SHTF they will work for a suicide-culture to accelerate the collapse.
i already had this intuition 20 years ago at the age of 15... i spent some years on self-study of psychology, to make this intuition more conscious. my "final answer" on all the problems of this world is my book: pallas. who are my friends. group composition by personality type. because obviously, most people are too stupid to choose their real friends, and instead are exploited by enemies aka "false friends".
idiots are insulted by the radical simplicity of my proposed solution, and instead, they continue their doomed-to-fail journey to find complex-but-wrong solutions... idiots are tragic heros, fighting lost wars, dragging everyone else down to their stupid level

summary - Father Tiso and his catholic lineage combined with scholarship in Tibetan studies places him in a unique position for interfaith dialogue - His research interest in investigating the extraordinary and unexplained Tibetan meditation phenomena of Rainbow Body manifested by the greatest practitioners at the time of death (including contemporary ones) sheds light on the Rainbow Body phenomena in many spiritual traditions and challenges the scientific community to come up with an explanation for it. - If scientifically proven true, it offers an extraordinary possibility of human potential - Contemplation could be the practice technique that could directly bridge normal human consciousness with the microscopic world around us, which to date, is only accessible through scientific instrumentation.
question - Does deep contemplative practice offers a direct access to the microscopic reality? - If so, how does it accomplish this direct communication with human cells, and indeed, even the universe itself? - Father Tiso shares centuries old recorded visual drawings of experiences reported by Rainbow Body practitioners and speculates whether these drawings represent direct experience of the cellular scale of our human form - Indeed, could it even be at the quantum level of experience, since rainbows are an optical phenomenal?

I started reading Parable of the Sower exactly one year to the date mentioned at the start of the book at the public library in Pasadena where she grew up. As a 49 year old father of a 12 year old daughter, it was a much more visceral and eerie experience than I could ever have expected. She has forever changed the perspective I have driving down the streets of our shared neighborhood.
I'm not sure if they'll have open remote registrations for it or if it will only be broadcast locally, but the local Octavia Butler Book Club has an upcoming zoom session on Feb 24 which can be found in the Pasadena Public Library's newsletter (.pdf). It will feature Dr. Kendra Parker via Zoom from Georgia to present her lecture: "Walking a Mile in Her Shoes: Exploring Octavia Butler's Archives."
The nearby Huntington Library houses her papers and some of her materials there may be accessible online.

Instance methods Instances of Models are documents. Documents have many of their own built-in instance methods. We may also define our own custom document instance methods. // define a schema const animalSchema = new Schema({ name: String, type: String }, { // Assign a function to the "methods" object of our animalSchema through schema options. // By following this approach, there is no need to create a separate TS type to define the type of the instance functions. methods: { findSimilarTypes(cb) { return mongoose.model('Animal').find({ type: this.type }, cb); } } }); // Or, assign a function to the "methods" object of our animalSchema animalSchema.methods.findSimilarTypes = function(cb) { return mongoose.model('Animal').find({ type: this.type }, cb); }; Now all of our animal instances have a findSimilarTypes method available to them. const Animal = mongoose.model('Animal', animalSchema); const dog = new Animal({ type: 'dog' }); dog.findSimilarTypes((err, dogs) => { console.log(dogs); // woof }); Overwriting a default mongoose document method may lead to unpredictable results. See this for more details. The example above uses the Schema.methods object directly to save an instance method. You can also use the Schema.method() helper as described here. Do not declare methods using ES6 arrow functions (=>). Arrow functions explicitly prevent binding this, so your method will not have access to the document and the above examples will not work.
Certainly! Let's break down the provided code snippets:
1. What is it and why is it used?
In Mongoose, a schema is a blueprint for defining the structure of documents within a collection. When you define a schema, you can also attach methods to it. These methods become instance methods, meaning they are available on the individual documents (instances) created from that schema.
Instance methods are useful for encapsulating functionality related to a specific document or model instance. They allow you to define custom behavior that can be executed on a specific document. In the given example, the
findSimilarTypes
method is added to instances of theAnimal
model, making it easy to find other animals of the same type.2. Syntax:
Using
methods
object directly in the schema options:javascript const animalSchema = new Schema( { name: String, type: String }, { methods: { findSimilarTypes(cb) { return mongoose.model('Animal').find({ type: this.type }, cb); } } } );
Using
methods
object directly in the schema:javascript animalSchema.methods.findSimilarTypes = function(cb) { return mongoose.model('Animal').find({ type: this.type }, cb); };
Using
Schema.method()
helper:javascript animalSchema.method('findSimilarTypes', function(cb) { return mongoose.model('Animal').find({ type: this.type }, cb); });
3. Explanation in Simple Words with Examples:
Why it's Used:
Imagine you have a collection of animals in your database, and you want to find other animals of the same type. Instead of writing the same logic repeatedly, you can define a method that can be called on each animal instance to find similar types. This helps in keeping your code DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) and makes it easier to maintain.
Example:
```javascript const mongoose = require('mongoose'); const { Schema } = mongoose;
// Define a schema with a custom instance method const animalSchema = new Schema({ name: String, type: String });
// Add a custom instance method to find similar types animalSchema.methods.findSimilarTypes = function(cb) { return mongoose.model('Animal').find({ type: this.type }, cb); };
// Create the Animal model using the schema const Animal = mongoose.model('Animal', animalSchema);
// Create an instance of Animal const dog = new Animal({ type: 'dog', name: 'Buddy' });
// Use the custom method to find similar types dog.findSimilarTypes((err, similarAnimals) => { console.log(similarAnimals); }); ```
In this example,
findSimilarTypes
is a custom instance method added to theAnimal
schema. When you create an instance of theAnimal
model (e.g., a dog), you can then callfindSimilarTypes
on that instance to find other animals with the same type. The method uses thethis.type
property, which refers to the type of the current animal instance. This allows you to easily reuse the logic for finding similar types across different instances of theAnimal
model.
This image resonates with the earliest description of an English poet, which we find in Bede’s Ecclesiastical History of the English People, completed in the year 731. Bede, a prolific monk and scholar from the monastery of Jarrow in Northumbria, provides an account of a certain Caedmon, an illiterate brother at the abbey at Whitby, who is visited by God and taught to sing beautiful poetry. Caedmon remains an oral poet, but his literate brothers write down his poetry for him.
-
To illustrate this liminal space between the oral and the literate, here is an illustration from the Vespasian Psalter, a manuscript from the late eighth century, that depicts King David singing the Psalms: David is accompanying himself with a harp, and there are horn players and a couple of people apparently clapping along with the beat. But there are also two scribes behind him, who are writing down his song. Here we have a representation of a culture in a transitional stage between oral and literate transmission of poetry—the oral performance of a poem and the written transmission of the same poem are both present in the image.
Last time, I decided to examine the question of Donald Trump’s disqualification by starting with the important stuff and working down to the minutiae (unlike a court of law, which goes the opposite direction). I started with the most important question of all: is it even legitimate to consider declaring a candidate disqualified? Should you ever take that decision away from the voters themselves? I answered yes, if the law includes qualifications, because we live in a republic, not a democracy.
we need to make the transition acceptable and attractive for the vast majority of citizens, and the only way to do that, is to make the changes easy to adopt. This requires strong engagement with society at large, and policies that make sustainable life choices not only easier, but also cheaper and more attractive. Or, put it the other way around, it must be more expensive to destroy the planet or the health of our fellow citizens".
You can see how the constant jumping between these two tools in the first scenario is super annoying, and also very risky as none of the changes you make in Figma are also automatically being updated in the same GitLab designs.
-
As a positive example of where this works well: Our VS Code GitLab Workflow extension allows users to not only see comments that were written inside the GitLab UI, but also allows these users to respond to these comments right from the IDE, the tool where they actually have to make these changes.
Die nördlichen Wälder Kanadas wurden seit 1976 durch Holzfällen erheblich geschädigt, wie eine neue Studie über zwei Provinzen zeigt. Nicht nur ging der Waldbestand erheblich zurück, die übrig gebliebenen Gebiete sind durch Fragmentierung für den Klimaschutz weniger relevant als die ursprünglichen Wälder. Der Nachhaltigkeitsbegriff der kanadischen Regierung sei vor allem an den Bedürfnissen der Holzindustrie orientiert, stellt der Hauptautor der Studie fest. Experten bezeichnen die Ergebnisse der auch als methodisch wichtig angesehenen Studie als schockierend. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/04/world/canada/canada-boreal-forest-logging.html
Summary
- This talk really emphasizes the need for the Stop Reset Go / Deep Humanity Wealth to Wellth program
- Interviewee Marjorie Kelly started Business Ethics magainze in 1987 to show the positive side of business After 30 years, she found that it was still tinkering at the edges. Why? - because it wasn't addressing the fundamental issue.
- Why there hasn't been noticeable change in spite of all these progressive efforts is because we avoided questioning the fundamental assumption that maximizing returns to shareholders and gains to shareholder portfolios is good for people and planet.**** It turns out that it isn't. It's fundamentally bad for civilization and has played a major role in shaping today's polycrisis.
- Why wealth supremacy is entangled with white supremacy
- Financial assets are the subject
- Equity and bonds use to be equal to GDP in the 1950s.
- Now it's 5 times as much
- Financial assets extracts too much from common people
- Question: Families are swimming in debt. Who owns all this financial debt? ...The financial elites do.
why is, are so many working class whites driving toward the hard right and wanting to support, you know, what seemed to us kind of insane policies? Well, people are desperate. They're looking for the answer. They're looking for the problem, and they're being told the problem is immigrants. And we don't look at wealth as the problem.
- for: the real BIG LIE, elephant in the room - wealth inequality, working class driven to hard right
-
Which is exactly what you do in the book. And what did you find? - So what I do, I take apart the operating system of capitalism, which is, and I look at seven myths, really that drive it.
-
for: book - wealth supremacy - 7 myths, 7 myths of Capitalism, capital bias, definition - capital bias
-
DESCRIPTION: 7 MYTHS of CAPITALISM
- The Myth of Maximization
- example of absurdity of maximization
- Bill Gates had $10 billion. Then he invested it and got $300 billion. There's no limit to how much wealth an individual can accumulate. It is absurd.
- example of absurdity of maximization
- Myth of the Income Statement
- Gains to capital called profit is always to be increased and
- Gains of labor is called an expense, is always to be decreased
- Myth of Materiality (also called capital bias)
- definition: capital bias
- If something impacts capital, it matters
- If something impacts society or ecology, it doesn't matter
- With the capital bias, only accumulating more capital matters. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. This is how most accountants and CFO's view the world.
- The Myth of Maximization
-
quote: Laura Flanders
- The capital is what matters. We're aiming for more capital and nothing else really matters. That's the operating system of the economy. So the real world is immaterial to this world of wealth as held in stocks and shares and financial instruments.
If you have studied the historical campaign, you may wonder if the same operational plan can be duplicated in the game—with the same results. The answer is yes. The unit capabilities and game mechanics allow for a repeat of history, but there is always the other player to consider. As with history, the two sides have nearly the same number of infantry divisions, tanks, mobile units and artillery. The German advantage is most evident in airpower—the Luftwaffe dramatically outclassed the Allied air forces in the campaign (and so it is with the game). Only the German player who knows exactly how to employ their units with careful attention to the movement and combat sequences, event card use, the hidden unit dynamic, and especially the air rules—will be able to duplicate the historic success of the 1940 Wehrmacht. And even then, the historic result was only possible because the Allied response played almost perfectly into Germany’s hand. But there is more than one path to a decisive result, and the game allows for multiple campaign plans for both sides. The rules are set up to mirror the operational, command, and doctrinal differences between the two opposing sides, but the contest is designed simply to re-create the same historic “canvas” upon which both players may then paint—the issue will be decided by a combination of player decisions and the fortunes and fog of war.
Die Antarktis erwärmt sich deutlich schneller als in den bisherigen Klimamodellen angenommen - die Westantarktis doppelt so schnell wie der globale Durchschnitt. Das könnte die Erhöhung des Meeresspiegels erheblich beschleunigen. comment / summary
- The content on this website may be what some call "doomers" that support a narrative of unavoidable catastrophe and civilization collapse
- The author does an excellent job of drawing together many scientifically validated research papers and news media stories on various crisis and integrates them together to support his narrative.
- As the author states, it is still incomplete but it is comprehensive and detailed enough to use as a starting foundation to build a complex polycrisis map upon. becaues it shows the complexities of the interwoven nexus of problems we face and the massive network of feedbacks between them that makes solving any one of them alone in isolation an impossibility
- The Cascade Institute focuses on social tipping points, complexity and polycrisis. We could synthesis a number of tools to map out and reveal effective mitigation strategies including:
- Cascade Institute tools
- Social tipping point tools
- SRG mapping tool along with Indyweb / Indranet
- Culture hacking tools
- SIMPOL strategy
- Downscaled Earth System Boundary tools
- SRG Deep Humanity BEing journey tools
- James Hansen's recommendation that the biggest leverage point is new form of governance
- We need to rapidly emerge a new global third political party that does not take money from special interest groups
- Progressive International comes to the same conclusion as James Hansen, that the key leverage point for rapid whole system change is radically new governance that puts power back to the hands of the people - power to the people
- SONEC's
- Indyweb's people-centered, interpersonal methodology is a perfect match for SONEC circle-within-circles fractal structure
- mention to @Gyuri
- I've seen this circle-within-circle fractal, holonic group idea with Tim's software as well as Roberto's
- Feebate from local governance groups (from another Doomer site - Arctic Emergency)
- What the author's narrative shows is
- how precarious our situation is
- how many trends are getting far worse in the immediate future
- how we are already undercapacitated to deal with existing crisis so how will we deal with new ones that are exponentially worse?
- all these crisis will impact our supply chains. Why are these important? Our reliance on technology is dangerous and makes us very vulnerable
- Think of your laptop, cellphone or other electronic device that relies on a vast, complex and globally operational internet. Imagine that tidal surges wipes out the globally critical data centers located in New York. Or imagine electronic factories in China and Taiwan are wiped out due to extreme weather. How will you get or fix a broken piece of electronic equipment? We rely on each millions of specialized jobs all working smoothly in order for our laptop to continue working and communicating with each other.
-
epiphany
- recommendation for new Indyweb / Indranet tools
- independent time and date stamp tool for every online, virtual sentence we write so we recognize in a long composition when we inserted a new idea
- ability to trace rapid trains of thought to reveal how new insights emerge from within our consciousness
- While writing this, I just recalled that we should have a way to time and date stamp every single virtual online action, like in this annotation because recall happens so nonlinearly and we won't have a hope to trace and trailmark without it. Hypothesis doesn't have time and date stamps of every sentence available to the user. So we don't know what nonlinear memory recall led to a specific sentence in an annotation. We need some independent Indyweb / Indranet tool that will do this universally. Trains of thoughts are so fragile we can forget the quick cascades very easily.
Der Standard fasst Berichte der WMO, des europäischen Wetterdienstes Copernicus und des Österreichischen Alpenvereins zum Schwund der Gletscher 2022 zusammen. Die europäischen Alpengletscher verloren 2022 mehr als 5 Kubikkilometer Eis. Die Schweizer Alpengletscher haben in 20 Jahren ein Drittel ihres Eises eingebüßt. Bei einer Temperaturerhöhung um 2,7° bis 2100 würde allein durch das fast vollständige Abschmelzen der Gletscher in Mitteleuropa, den USA, Westkanada und Neuseeland der Meeresspiegel um 115mm steigen.
Adler & Hutchinson's Great Books of the Western World was an encyclopedia-based attempt to focus society on a shared history as their common ground. H. G. Wells in his World Encyclopedia thesis attempts to forge a new "moving" common ground based on newly evolving knowledge based on distilling truth out of science. Shared history is obviously much easier to dispense and spread about compared to constantly keeping a growing population up to date with the forefront of science.
How could one carefully compose and juxtapose the two to have a stronger combined effect?
How could one distribute the effects evenly?
What does the statistical mechanics for knowledge management look like at the level of societies and nations?
-
very carefully assem-bled with the approval of outstandingauthorities in each subject, carefully col-lated and edited, and critically presented.It would be not a miscellany but a con-centration, a clarification and a synthesis.
Compare this with Hutchins and Adler's solution undertaken just a few years following this beginning in the early 1940s and finally published in 1952: The Great Books of the Western World.
These books speak toward the idea of living well and understanding mankind, but don't have the same deeply edited and critical synthesis viewpoint.
key insight
- Elites are necessary in every society
- Historically, people who strongly believe that the current elites aren't necessary or are harmful often become the revolutionaries who become the new elites
- elites need to speak in their own specialist language to each other but there are two kinds of elites
- those who serve society
- those who serve themselves
- often, we have fox in sheep's clothing - elites who serve themselves but disguise themselves in the language of elites who serve others in order to gain access to power ,
- we normally think of wealthy people as elites, but Harari classifies scientists as also a kind of elite
- elites may be necessary but
- We are caught in a double bind, a wicked problem as elites are also the world's greatest per capita energy consumers and their outsized ecological, consumption and energy footprint is now a existential threat to the survival of our species
its easy to get lost in complexity here, but i prefer to keep it simple: our *only* problem is overpopulation, which is caused by pacifism = civilization. *all* other problems are only symptoms of overpopulation. these "financial weapons of mass destruction" (warren buffett) have the only purpose of mass murder = to kill the 95% useless eaters. so yes, this is a "controlled demolition" aka "global suicide cult". most of us will die, but we are happy...
financial weapons of mass destruction: the useful idiots believe that they can defeat risk (or generally, defeat death) by centralization on a global scale. they want to build a system that is "too big to fail" and which will "live forever". they use all kinds of tricks to make their slaves "feel safe" and "feel happy", while subconsciously, everything is going to hell in the long run. so this is just another version of "stupid and evil people trying to rule the world". hubris comes before the fall, nothing new. their system will never work, but idiots must try... because "fake it till you make it" = constructivism, mind over matter, fantasy defeats reality, ...
the video and soundtrack are annoying, they add zero value to the monolog.
