    1. This has been an ongoing "philosophers stone" in the repair community for a long time. Hard platens are the result of the rubber losing its moisture, there's virtually no way to fix that long term. Brake fluid, rubber renew, even the wintergreen oil trick only temporarily soften platens/feeds. They will absolutely go back to their former state after a time. (1-2 months) You can sand the exterior and clean with organic solvents to restore grip and improve the original platen, but recovery is really the only long term fix. *There's a ton of back and forth about the sanding method, particularly from the old timers being salty about it. But I have seen HUNDREDS of old platens in machines that have absolutely been sanded by repair folks back in the day, so there's definitely value in the process.

    1. Things that have no interest to you can be ignored without anxiety.

      This is one of the primary keys.

      When taking college-like courses now later in life, I can do so with a much broader perspective. I can focus on the broader shape of the course and the information that intrigues me and place less focus on the nitty-gritty details that a high school or college student might be expected to memorize.

      Of course, some of this would depend on the professor and the evaluations they planned on giving. If it was a humanities course where creating a paper or two was primary over memorizing details, then students might be able to get away with something closer to "professional" notes versus "student" notes. Depending on a syllabus, there could definitely be some overlap between the two.

    1. The HoverBar Duo’s base is stable and heavy enough to support Apple’s biggest 12.9” iPad Pro.

      Having spent the past two days exploring the potential of the used first-generation HoverBar Duo I somehow managed to acquire for $35, I would emphasize "enough" here as a qualifier at least once over.

      Though the following is pure speculation, there were a few highly observable clues to suggest that the previous owner also had a heavy iPad Pro (perhaps a 13,9 as I have,) though - after over-tightening all the adjustment screws (all but stripping threads in the case of the one at the base,) they were ultimately not satisfied with the Duo's management of the weight, even tightened to that state.

      (Again, entirely speculative but.)

    1. Even though I’m an amateur researcherMeaning I do it as part of my job as a designer and writer, but in a rather a naive way compared to anyone writing a PhD., I still spend a good chunk of time hunting down and reading academic publications.

      One really oughtn't downplay their research skills like this, rather they should wear them as a badge of honor. Downplaying them leeches away one's power.

      Ph.D. researchers may potentially go deeper into sources, but this is only a function of time and available attention.

      This sort of debate also plays out in spaces like writing computer code. The broader industry determines who is and isn't a "coder", but this is only a means of creating power structures that determine who has power and who doesn't or who is part of the conversation and who isn't.

      Don't let Maggie fool you here, she is definitely part of this conversation.

      What areas of work over time does this pattern of level of experience not apply to?

      There is definitely a level of minimal literacy at which one could be considered a reader, but there is no distinction between amateur reader and professional reader the way there might be between an "amateur researcher" and a full time "academic researcher".

      Other examples of this? Video game playing?

      Beyond this, Gracie also had senses of timing and spatial skills that many also often lack. This is a sort of neurodiversity piece which some are either lifted up or pulled down by within our literacy-focused teaching system.

      It may be a skill she's focused on improving, or one which she's naturally gifted and might improve upon to use in a professional career. Focusing on a literacy-only framing for her education is the sort of thing that, instead of amplifying her talents, may have the effect of completely destroying them, and her altogether.

      If your garden is well maintained, you are more likely to spend time there. A well-kept garden can create an overwhelming feeling of calm and order even when you’re just looking out at it. This is similar to having a clean, neat and tidy house. Feeling better is good. Furthermore, a beautiful and healthy garden will truly enhance the appearance of your property. To accomplish that, there are a variety of steps that need to be taken.

      When you engage a professional gardening cleaning service, they ensure that your garden's lawn and hedges are properly mowed and manicured.

    1. Importantly, we had a human in the loop with a firm moral and ethical ‘don’t-go-there’ voice to intervene.

      The human-in-the-loop was a key breakpoint between the model's findings as concepts and the physical instantiation of the model's findings. As the article goes on to say, unwanted outcomes come from both taking the human out of the loop and replacing the human in the loop with someone with a different moral or ethical driver.

    1. Each highlighted statement expresses political talking points aligned to induce trump-like support.

      Trump introduced new marketing and strategy, formulated using concepts and metrics mastered by Reality TV and Hollywood and then paired with advertising propaganda and "selling" techniques to create a "Brand". This is after-all Donald Trump, this is what he does, has done and is the only way he has found to make money. Trump built the "brand" (just barely) while teetering on self destruction.

      His charismatic persona became "the glue" that allowed creative narratives to stick to certain types of people in-spite of risk. Trump learned OTJ how to capture a specific type of audience.

      The mistake people make about Trump is assuming his audience to be "Joe Six-Pack", redneck's with limited education! This assumption does not have merit on its own.<br /> * There is a common "follower" theme among his audience that is exploited by those who: * Bought the "licensing rights" to the master-class Trump "how-to" course.

    1. Literature Essay Outline

      An essay is a paper in prose, small in length, and free in composition. It expresses the individual impressions and thoughts of the author on a particular topic or issue. The structure of writing an essay is determined by the requirements of the genre: the thoughts of the author of the text are set out as brief theses, each thesis must be substantiated, supported by evidence.

      A person who does not often have to write various texts may find it difficult to grasp all the nuances and requirements of an essay. The work on the chosen topic will be written by professionals https://studyessay.org/, they will reveal the problem, select convincing arguments and examples, as well as properly format the text.

      Consequently, the structure of the essay is circular:

      1. introduction;
      2. theses and arguments;
      3. conclusion.

      The number of theses and arguments depends on the topic, the written plan of the essay, and the direction of thought development. Also, the introduction and conclusion should focus on the chosen issue. The scheme of the essay assumes the presence of paragraphs, red lines, which help in achieving the integrity of the work. How to write an essay: outline

      The scheme of writing an essay is looser than that of other written works. That is why the author must independently think about the structure of the future text. The structure depends on the goals, form, volume of the work. The scheme will be most conveniently perceived if you fix it on paper. The plan of writing an essay is a kind of "skeleton", on which the author builds up thoughts and ideas. Work on the essay begins with a writing plan. To make the text connected, it is convenient to act according to the following scheme:

      1. choose a topic;
      2. fix theses and thoughts on the issue;
      3. justify the stated ideas, pick up arguments;
      4. build the theses in a logical sequence, the thoughts should follow one another.

      Essay writing tips

      1. The main recommendation for writing an essay is to outline the text. This will help to keep the thought in one line, remember the topic and purpose.
      2. The essay is a genre that does not involve writing long texts. Thoughts should be expressed briefly, but understandable to the reader.
      3. It is helpful to reread your essay to make sure that the text is connected logically, the topic is not lost and all theses and arguments are mentioned.

      Despite the fact that the essay does not have any strict rules of writing, there are still a number of recommendations and peculiarities of the genre, which are worth adhering to.

    1. In this study, we drew on sociocultural notions of agency – where individual actions are entwined with community goals. A community is comprised of people with shared and individual goals, in their environments, in the midst of a historical context (Wenger 1998Wenger, E. 1998. Communities of Practice: Learning, Meaning, and Identity. New York, NY: Cambridge University Press. [Crossref], [Google Scholar]). Due to this web of relationships with people, environment, and history, people do not act autonomously, but according to possibilities within the community. Such possibilities for agency are negotiated over time; actions that strengthen ties to the community constitute investments in the self that in turn, have outcomes for the community as well (Peirce 1995Peirce, B. N. 1995. “Social Identity, Investment, and Language Learning.” TESOL Quarterly 29: 9–31. doi:10.2307/3587803. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®], [Google Scholar]). The financial metaphor in using the word investment is critical – it connotes spent effort that yields dividends. These dividends emerge immediately and over time.

      This helps me consider communities of practice, and unpacking the relational aspects - agency within a context, not autonomous, informed by the context and others. Is there a tension with "groupthink", how to value the diversity in a group, and build stronger not weaker, not defaulting or regressing to a mean?. How do we build a group to be more than the sum of the parts. how does the community work to enhance practice.
